Same Dress, 2 Shops, very different prices!

Hi Everybody Smiley smile

The whole finding my dream dress has been more stressful than I imagined it would be! My own fault naturally but I wanted it to be right. I quickly became certain of Maggie Sottero and I tried on a dress that I loved but wanted to make a few changes to it. On reflection once i'd left the shop, i'd realised that the changes I wanted to make meant that dress wasn't for me! I managed to find a dress on their website that incorporated what I loved about the first dress but also the changes I had in mind and rung round to see if I can find it to try it on! It was new collection so I did struggle but I'd got in touch with a boutique in Leeds that had said they had it in. I arranged an appointment to go, got there, and they didn't have it Smiley sad I then spoke to a boutique in Wakefield who had managed to source the dress and went to try it. It was the ONE!! I left to think about whether I wanted nude/ivory illusion and in the meantime, received a notification via instagram from the boutique in Leeds to say i'd won their £400 voucher off any gown in their store! This to any bride, is music to their ears! So I rebooked an appointment at the Leeds one and they now had the dress in and decided to go ahead.

HOWEVER .. Once my measurements etc. had been taken and I had paid, it had suddenly crossed my mind that I didn't recall the dress in the Wakefield boutique being as expensive as it was in Leeds. I called Wakefield and the dress was £1565 but in Leeds it was £1879!!

I called the Leeds boutique to query this and she said she would check and call me back which she did and explained Maggie Sottero set a price and then the boutiques factor in the postal code and charge accordingly so perhaps the Wakefield shop was undercutting the price the designer had set??

I would be okay with this if we were talking a small difference but it's £314. Including my alterations, with the £400 voucher i'd won, I'm actually no better off??

They have offered me £100 off the alterations to soften the blow but doesn't take away from the considerable difference between the 2 shops selling the same dress??

Competition aside, has anyone else heard of this or know this to be the case?

Of course the dress is more expensive, they’re giving you ‘free £400’ off your dress, they have to make it up somewhere. Nothing in life is free.

Unfortunately, this was not the case, the dress was tagged as £1879 for any customer and not reflective simply because of my 'win.'

Yes I’ve noticed this. Saw a dress I loved which was £300 more in a shop in Chester than it was in Liverpool. Obviously there is quite a distance between them but worth travelling if it’ll save a few hundred pounds.
To anyone looking it’s really valuable to ring around and get prices before committing, don’t assume it will cost the same everywhere. Hopefully for others looking there will be 2 shops in the same area!
