Well we had a really productive weddingy weekend in the Suffolk sunshine! Met with 2 photographers, a caterer and also had a room tour of a hotel where we think we will stay for the weekend of our wedding.

When we met the caterer we told him that ideally we would like sausage and mash for our main course - it is one of our favourite meals and I know it will suit all our guests from 2 to 85. Something simple and tasty - would want good quality Suffolk sausages for example.

The caterer can do this but he did say that in his own opinion he doesn't think it is the type of dish appropriate for weddings. People have spent (in some cases) a lot of money to attend the wedding, travelled some distance etc. and might think they deserved a 'better' meal - like a really good quality cut of meat, roast potatoes, veg etc.

This has thrown me somewhat as we were pretty set on s&m (!) but of course we don't want to appear stingy or disappoint the guests! I've been to a wedding before where s&m was served and I wasn't aware of any complaints!

Anyway, sausage & mash for wedding meal - yes or no?

I think its a great idea!

like you said it would suit your guests down to a T. You can get some very good sausages (i have not tasted these famous suffolk sausages!!) but you can also have some top class veg & maybe some good old roast tatties! My h2b is english and he loves sausage & mash with sweet onion gravy, loads of veg & roasties.

end of the day its YOUR wedding and YOU (& h2b of course) have the final say!

I'm a veggie so would go for veggie sausages and mash with onion/veggie gravy...the only thing that would stick in my head though is if the chef would take a short cut and cook all the sausages together, including the veggie ones ☹️

If your happy with your choice and are paying the food bill then your venue should serve what you want, you always have people that don't like something on the menu at weddings, you can't please everyone!

Sausage & mash would be great, as long and they are quality sausages, sounds like you're already keen to source that

BTW did you know Kate Winslet had S&M for her (first) wedding? So that would almost make you a celebrity ?

I'm veggie so if we go with this with a veggie sausage option I will ensure it is all properly veggie friendly!

Thanks for all your reassurance guys! Just waiting for the caterers quote now ....
