Do I need to send save the dates to my evening guests?

I'm worried they will get the impression that they are invited all day!

My understanding is that general etiquette dictates that evening guests do not get save the dates. Save the dates are only for your “definitely invited to the whole day” guests. This is what I’m doing anyway.
