Scented candles

Georgia, 19 December, 2022 at 12:47 Posted on Planning 0 3
Hey fellow brides.
I want to use a mixture of candles in my wedding (my venue allow live flames 🤗). Question is are scented candles acceptable/ a good idea. I am wanting a mixture of candles and love the idea of a wedding scent. I won't have every candle scented.

One issue might be that is that scented candles can be a trigger for people with asthma, migraine etc. So you might want to think about your guests and whether anyone on your guest list might be affected by this.

If you know all the bridal party are ok with scent, you could maybe have scented candles just on the top table? That might reduce the risk.

I think you can have a scent but may need to be mindful of how strong it should be and air circulation in the room. Have you ever been to a friends, sat in their lounge whilst they’re burning a Yankee Candle that you despise the smell of? You sit there with a growing headache or feeling nauseous till it’s the earliest possible moment you can acceptably leave 😂

So yeah that’s what you’d want to avoid. If you have a smell, maybe something somewhat neutral and light or maybe intersperse the smelling candles with some that are just for decoration. That way round a big room it’s a milder aroma, but I’d still be conscious of fresh air circulation. You don’t want the room becoming heavy and stuffy with the smell. Also I’m not sure if I’d include them in centre pieces, it might be a bit much whilst people are eating, so maybe around more of the periphery of the room instead. That way when you pass the candle you’ll get a nice waft, but it won’t be something your whole room smells strongly of.

I agree some scented candles can be quite overpowering so just make sure there's air flow in the room and I would only do a maximum of 30% of your candles scented. If you want a really subtle way of adding scent into the room, Primark and similar places do tiny bottles of reed diffusers/ essential oils things and you can hide these in florals and dot them around the room for a really subtle scent which can be smelt when coming into the room but isn't headache worthy when eating.
