Scottish Wedding Venues - Exclusive Use

Nenz, 21 November, 2009 at 14:59 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi all

I was wondering if you can help. We just got engaged and have our hearts set on getting married in Scotland. We would really like a winter wedding in 2011 for appprox 55 guests. We want to hire an entire venue for 2-3 nights and want all of our guests to stay in the venue. Does anybody have any ideas or is anyone getting/got married in Scotland and has any tips. Any help would be much appreciated ?

Thanks!

Sounds like an amazing idea and im sure there are plenty of people on here that could help (although im very sorry im not one of them! Smiley sad im from Wiltshire! ) it will probably work out quite costly but i think you may well be able to strike a good deal if you are prepared to haggle!!! i really hope it all comes together, and congrats on your engagement!! x

Knockderry house does this and it's gorgeous. It's a small traditionally Scottish country Hotl but beautiful inside. We went to look at it and really wanted it but it was a bit pricey for us. Perfect size for 55 people too.

    Good luck!

Do you want something in the countryside or just in scotland? Our hotel is in central scotland (Kinda) but has 5 or more acres of garden (can't remember what the wedding planner said!!) We have exclusivity of our venue on our big day. So the best thing to do is find a venue you love and ask if they do this. x

I had originally paid a deposit of £500 which i lost as i could only get the drawing room and the room next to that cant remember the name but the roseberry ball room was not included as they may have another wedding that day???

Sorry for being nosey just a bit annoyed was is suzanne you seen?

Ross Priory on Loch Lomond would be perfect for your requirements! They can hold up to 60 guests, prices are reasonable, and you get exclusive use of the venue. Beautiful surroundings too!

We looked at it and did really like it but in the end, fancied something a bit more 'luxurious'. I would recommend it to anyone, though, as it is very nice!

Totally agree with Jen - RP could be an option (we're getting married there, so of course I recommend it to anyone!). The only thing to add to this is that RP isn't closed off to golf club members, so they might be hanging around in the bar. Although in my experience at the venue, most of the golfers feel a bit awkward being there if there's a wedding on so I'm not too worried about them. We have the venue and all of the 11 rooms and self-catering cottage within the grounds (sleeps 6) for the weekend of our wedding.

Thanks so much for your recommendations. I will look into all of those. Has anyone looked at Achnagairn House? It seems to have everything we want.

We got married here and it was lovely. We had it from the Friday until the Sunday and we hired both the main house and the Orchard Lodge. We had slightly fewer guests than you so I am not sure if all 55 would be able to be accommodated in the house, although I do believe there is another house in the grounds that could be hired too (you would need to check).

Gean House are really accommodating and let you use all of the rooms for what ever you want them for and will even set up a children's games room for you if you wish. You can also get marrired in the gardens if the weather is nice (which it wasn't for us!) The whole venue had a lovely feel to and our whole family felt totally at home. I thought it was also very reasonably priced for what you get.

If you want a peek at my wedding pics or DVD for a glimpse at the house, just say and I will post the links.

Have a look at the website: http://geanhouse.co.uk/

Just had a thought, if you really want to push the boat out, this venue looks stunning (and I have such wonderful things about it): http://www.drumtochtyunlimited.com/

If you could put on some wedding pics/dvd that would be fantastic. Will defo look into that venue.

I am waiting for some information on Drumtochty Castle as i thought it looked amazing. I am slightly concerned that it might be out of our price range.

    Hi nenz!

I'm getting married in Winton House which is near Tranent, it is absolutely stunning, the staff are incredible and its exclusive use. If you like the look of the website, I woudl highly suggest going to see it in person. Esp for a winter wedding, they have fireplaces in every room and its soo grand and cosy.

As promised, here are my links:

Unfortunately my budget couldn't quite stretch to Drumtochty Castle so I didn't even go and look at it, but it does look so beautiful! A hitcher got married there just after I got married and she had the most amazing weekend there.

Another friend of mine got married here: https://www.glenskirliecastle.co.uk/ and she highly recommends it.

When we were planning we sent off for brochures for here: http://www.lennoxlove.com/
here: http://www.cromlixhouse.com (it has its own little chapel)
and here too http://www.scotlandweddings.co.uk/ (and loads more besides) but we settled on Gean House as it ticked all of our boxes. Good luck with your venue hunting and when you finally find one, if I can help with suppliers just yell.

I've stayed a number of times at the Coul House Hotel, about 30mins North of Inverness. It's a beautiful setting, and they do weddings with exclusive use. Have a look at www.coulhousehotel.com
