Sean Mercer found guilty of Rhys Jones murder

His family must be so relieved.

I'm in total awe of the police for getting a conviction for this - I really didn't think they would ever do so.

I hope Rhys's family are able to move on now, as best they can of course, and that Rhys RIP. ?

They worked so damn hard Zebra.

Boy X's evidence (the boy who was approached by Mercer to keep the gun but instead went to the police) and phone/bug evidence in the offenders homes were the clinchers. Police and people locally knew who it was (I even heard his name!) but the police needed to graft to build the case with hard evidence, it was a very long process.

I just can't believe that Mercer and some of the other offenders were messing around and laughing in the dock throughout, unbelievable.

That is such a relief. I hope the family can try and get on with their lives now and that the sentences are fitting, although after watching the Jamie Bulger thing last week, I'm not overly confident, even though its entirely different circumstances.

Shame on them all for doing that in the dock, they really beggar belief.

I think they will manage, they seem a very tight knit family unit. I think the excellent charity work they are doing will help, plus they have Rhys' brother too. They have a lot of support from their employer (you know the little Tesco near me? that's where they work(ed)) and I think they have moved away from the immediate area as they lived so near where Rhys died. I hope they can move forward and have some peace in their lives.

Sentencing is going to be today too. A police spokesman has said Mercer has shown no remorse and hopes that the sentencing will reflect that.
