Seating at evening reception/ using breakout room.

Vicki, 16 May, 2021 at 11:08 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi

I’ve not posted on here before, but to cut a long story very short we’ve got x2 rooms tentatively booked at the hotel were getting married at.

Room 1 is where we will have day reception for 48 guests. This is 5 tables. Then we have extra guests coming for evening reception so we will have 75 people at the evening, mostly adults (Max form room is 80).

To make space for the dance floor at night 1 table is removed and the tables are converted from 8-10 which would seat 40.

The room also have small passage way into the bar area, which they call a lounge area this is where the bar is, and is a through fare to toilets

It is behind the lobby but sectioned off so its private and there is additional seating in here, this is also where they serve the buffet from. There won’t be enough seating for everyone. There is no outdoor space only smoking area, as it is a city hotel.

Option 2 is to have the ball room at night ball room at night but minimum of 80 due to size. This also requires extra £500 and extra chairs covers/sash etc as the chairs are different from the other room, so we would end out paying twice as the chairs can’t be moved. So we’re out really keen on this, plus I feel we would have to invite extra people to make numbers up - which seems like a bonkers ideas.

I don’t know if I am overthinking it OH thinks I am, I just want to make sure people have a place to sit, and aren’t Moaning about it. I want people to feel happy and enjoy themselves.

I’m also not sure I’m fused about the lounge area as I wanted people to be in same room, o don’t want people to feel they are missing out, and again be moaning “ not enough seating in room had to sit somewhere else” etc.

What are peoples thoughts on

1. Not having enough chairs at the evening reception

2. Having separate area lounge area to use as seating.

Apologies for long post 😄

Thanks

Vicki

I’d keep a lounge area where it’s easier for people to chat when they want to. And not having enough chairs for everyone could be a bonus as it may encourage people to dance if they’re on their feet already. I agree it seems mad to have to ask lots more people, that you’re maybe not that bothered about, just to fill up the ballroom, quite aside from the extra budget.

As Sonia said, you don’t need a seat for everyone. Trust the venue, they know what they’re doing

    Thanks for the opinions/ advice.

I’m still waiting to hear what rules will be after 21st of June, in terms of social distancing and whether people will be able to order from the bar? At the minute everyone needs to be seated, which throws up another dilemma. Fingers crossed we’re back to some sort of normality.
