Shift Allowance and Overtime Query

leni, 20 October, 2008 at 22:27 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

OH just showed me his pay slip- I queried the overtime rate as I think he's down by £3.00 per overtime hour. He's paid a shift allowance of about £5,000 a year, will his overtime rate include this or is overtime on the basic wage i.e. without shift allowance

his hourly rate with shift allowance is £10.50ish

his hourly rate without shift allowance is £8.60ish

His overtime rate is £12.90ish

As Ice Queen says, it totally depends what is detailed in his contract.

If it's of any use at all, probably not, the company I work for would pay overtime based on his basic hourly rate. The shift allowance is a set amount to compensate for working shifts and would not be taken in to account.

It now turns out that I was right as his shift partners are on the higher overtime pay. But work have told OH that they will only backdate 1 month, though this has been going on 18 months! OH not in a union, how can we check or go about getting more backdated?
