Shingles, chicken pox, motor neurone disease

Fimble, 15 May, 2008 at 14:04 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

I'm due to visit someone with MND today. My son has chicken pox. I've had chicken pox 20 years ago.

Apparently you can't catch shingles from someone with chicken pox. Therefore there is no reason to think I may have shingles.

Therefore there is no reason to postpone my visit.

Is that right? Have gone round in circles with this one.

Not quite the same but I'm preggers at the moment - I was a bridesmaid a few weeks ago and the wedding photographer told the bride her son had shingles - bride got in a big stress and consulted all sorts of people to see if this was a problem (including NHS direct) who all told her it was fine because the photographer had had chicken pox (as had I). I'm sure it's fine but why not check with the person your visiting?

The only risk is that the CP virus would travel on you but I think that's unlikely. Has the person had CP? If so it's academic anyway

    Thanks both.

I don't know if shes had chicken pox herself. She gets pretty stressed about things now (understandably) and is also very bored and lonely, so I didn't want to alarm her and for her to panic and cancel the visit, if there is no risk. I haven't seen my son for about 8 hours anyway so its not like I'm going visiting her dripping in his saliva (yuk) or whatever.
