Shop ordered dress way too big

Sami, 27 August, 2021 at 07:42 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 6
Hi everyone. I’m a bit worried about the fact my dress has been ordered by the shop way too big.
So I’m a uk size 10 top and 12 bottom, and have been since around age 13 😬 my ‘made to measure’ dress has been ordered in a uk size 16 and after 3 fitting appointments, still isn’t fitting right. Iv paid £1500 for the dress and an extra £300 for alterations which I paid for when the dress was first ordered. My wedding is in less than 3 weeks and I’m not really sure what I can do now

I would be really cross with the shop for ordering it so big , it’s normally one size up for a wedding dress. It’s their mistake so they need to rectify it at their expense. You need to tell them they need to sort it ASAP. Good luck , you have 3 weeks so try not to worry x

I completely agree with Marcie, it was the shops error, and rather than altering the dress down 2/3 sizes they should have admitted their mistake and ordered in the correct size, and I would have requested the alteration cost to be at least discounted for the error and delay.

When I got measured for my dress I was across 3 different sizes for bust/waist/hips and they had to go with the biggest size which I understand. I don't know if it's a similar case for you or if not then I've no idea why they'd order sizes bigger.

The shop definitely needs to get it sorted either way though and I don't think you should be paying that much out for alterations.

I wouldn't worry too much about the time you have between now and the wedding though. Mine is on 26th September and they're only just sorting the length out for me on the 7th. When you go to visit the shop how do they seem? Mine are really good at putting my mind at ease about things so maybe have a chat with them and let them know your concerns and tell them how worried you are. I do think you need to be firm and tell them when you want it sorted by.

Hope you get sorted. When you ordered the dress you probably signed a contract also so I'd have a read through that to see if there's anything that could help you.

Thank you, it’s so stressful I really don’t like complaining but I do feel like the whole wedding dress experience has really been crap. The shop it’s self is really prestigious in my area… they film say yes to the dress there. My first dress fitting I noticed the size on the label and then when I put it on the assistant said ‘wow you’ve lost some weight’, not only that but when they came to take the dress away I noticed my name tag said ‘Steph’ and not Sami. Second dress fitting I went and they had not altered from the first so again it really hung off me, I had a different assistant this time and she also said ‘wow you’ve lost a lot of weight’ I told her I haven’t and she said ‘well clearly you have’ to which I replied I haven’t, Iv been ordered a size 16… her response to that was ‘oh’. The second assistant was really not interested and my bridesmaid actually ended up emailing to complain about her. Third fitting did fit better but still nowhere near and they had padded me out like Pamela Anderson 😂

I’m still hunting for my dress but this sounds like a really bad service! From what you’ve said it sounds like they made a mistake and are trying to cover themselves. I must admit, I’ve been to a few bridal shops now and I’ve found that the two posh/famous ones I went to had the worst service… neither of them followed up with me afterwards and I felt like it was a proper conveyor belt situation. I’m going to stick with local shops that actually remember my name from now on I think.
