Shopping help: old ladies' nighties - updated for Mrs M

Clairy, 12 December, 2008 at 07:04 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

My Mum wants a "wam nightie" for Christmas. Bless her, she's rather old fashioned. Something like this would be ideal:

Budget is about £20. The one above is £69 ? I've looked in Debenhams, BHS, M&S and they're all short sleeved or too trendy. It needs to be long as she's 6 foot tall.

How about this: http://www.nightingales.com/productcache/NGS/BO7707/HQ310DT.html from Nightingales? only £18!

Nightingales are great for old ladies stuff, my mum shops there!

We got one like that with long sleeves for Nan RBH for £16 from BHS. Did you try a big store? They had quite a few we could have choosen from.

There seem to be 3 or 4 candidates in the M&S "Classic" collection.

BHS and Bon Marche would be my first bets.

Fab, thanks for all the recommendations, I hadn't searched the M&S site properly, so I hadn't found the Classic collection. I bought this one:

However, I wish I had waited for Mrs M's link now 😆 £8 - what a bargain! That said, I guess this one will be easier to take back (which she will inevitably want to do 😄)

I know many people avoid going in there but I got my step mother a pair of PJ's from TKMax yesterday that are of that age group (style is in line with the nighty shown IYKWIM) and they were £15.99 and so so soft. There were also nighties very similar to your pic in there for around the same price.

ETA Oops you have one! Doh! on me for not reading all the posts ?

Yeah I know ? You could only get thin nighties with long sleeves, or thick nighties with short sleeves. I figured thick nighties with long sleeves might be too hot to be comfortable. I've bought her a thick fluffy dressing gown too for when she's not in bed, so this will have to do.

I bet she'll take it back anyway, she's notoriously difficult to buy for. She is trying to take back the ruby ring Dad bought her for their ruby wedding anniversary. You would think some things would be appreciated at face value wouldn't you? ?

It's just arrived and it has long sleeves ? Which is excellent, the best scenario for me, but how random ?
