Idea blatently stolen from MSE but brought back loads of memories!

I remember

The Gadget Shop (loved nosing in there!)

Hamells clothes store

Salisburys for bags

Freeman Hardy and Willis for shoes

Dayvilles ice cream shops (49 flavours!)

Chelsea Girl (had a Saturday job there!)

Berni Inns - huge treat when we went there!

Our Price records - the Virgin ad reminded me of those

Midland Bank - my parents had their account there.

What ones do you remember?

Anyone else remember Timothy Whites? think that was a part of Boots?

and, there was another shoe shop chain but I can't recall for the life of me what it was. It was a very cheapo chain, bit like FHW but cheaper!

Didn't it become River Island? I had a fab jumper dress for Chelsea Girl as a youngster - it had cars on it!

That Virgin ad has made me sentimental about Our Price - got my first CD from the one in Blackpool.

Kwik Save, RIP. The one in my hometown had a random concession where I used to get my school uniform from, lol! Very nylon-ish, I seem to recall!

Oooh we also had a fab ( at the time ) shop in Newcastle called SGT pepper which sold nearly everything with tassels on. Mainly jumpsuits and skirts.

They had to be worn with knee high boots from Barrets which also had tassels which wrapped around the top of the boot and tied at the front

PLEASE tell me im not the only one that had them mid 80's ?

Yes by Pool Meadow bus station! I live in Nuneaton but my grandma lived in Cov and used to take us in on Saturdays. They had particular days when they offered pensioner specials

    ?

Did you used to go to Wimpey in the Lower precinct too?

There are still Wimpys I recently went to one with mum when I went home to London. God I miss their homemade milkshakes wish we had a service one closer to us.

Someone said International, did you meant the supermarket? I so remember that!!! No one else ever knows what I am talking about when I mention it.

Our Price too, was just talking about that the other day.

Lois come and stay with me - there is a Wimpy about a two minute walk from my front door in East London. I *may* have eaten one of their egg and bacon baps following a recent night out...

Ah yes Our Price, sadly missed. When I had my Saturday job at a Newsagents, the guy who worked there that I had a huge crush on (until I found out his name was Wade and my ardour cooled) used to come into the shop to buy the milk for their tea breaks. My hands used to shake when I gave him back his change... ahhh what a loser I was! ?

? @ "I am skill" - excellent! We had the 'Benetton Brigade' at my secondary school who all had skirts up to their armpits and Benetton United Colours jumpers and bags. I was a geeky prefect so sadly missed out on the tippexing... although someone did write "RB wants Roddy's babies" on my folder in maths. It was true though, ah, Mr. Rodriguez....

There is a Wimpy in Camelot theme park, Charnock Richard. I've never eaten there though.

I was once in the Wimpey at Bristol when I was about 8 years old, and watched a man eat his meal and then wipe the cutlery on his trouser leg, put them in his inside pocket and walk out.

Morrison's bought out Safeway to get a foot into the retail supermarket world down south. I hear that Co-op are buying Somerfield.

Since I moved to Harborne, our local supermarket has morphed from a Safeway to a Somerfield to a Waitrose. I hope it stops there! ?
