Should cats eat salad?

LittleStar, 17 May, 2008 at 20:49 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

I had tuna salad for tea. Loki is now picking his way through the odd bits of leftover rocket, watercress, spinach and spring onion in order to get to the odd bits of leftover tuna stuck to them, so he's eating a few salad leaves as he goes. It won't make him ill, will it? I keep dragging him away from the dish, but he just growls and goes back to it.

He should be alright. Cats eat stuff in the garden all the time and salad leaves are much nicer that grass!

    Thanks, you're right - I'm sure he'll be fine.

He's such a bin, I bet he's eaten worse that I've not known about. Stupid mog.

My Tinker ate tin foil once and I only know when she was sick on the bathroom floor with sliver in it. I phoned the vets and they said she'll probably not do it again if she's been sick and as far as I know she hasn't.

So salad is nothing compared to tin foil!

Now you mention it, Loki's eaten the silver foil/plastic wrapping from cat treats before. Unsurprisingly he was sick. However, he would probably do it again if I left unattended cat treats in the room.

Poppy will insist in licking the marmite off my knife if I leave it unwashed in the kitchen (which is very often then!) and yesterday I caught her dipping her paw in my cup of coffee .. which I hadn't even finished drinking. Cheekly little madam.

Liquorice once drank milk out of my bowl of cornflakes, bless him he sat looking all angelic and innocent and as though he'd done nothing (I wasn't in the room when the crime was committed) however he had a HUGE milky beard!

Tink ate tin foil from someone recylcer!!

Loki's perfected the art of looking innocent.

We came home one night to find the remains of an old ham packet and a ripped plastic bag on the kitchen floor (the ham had dried out so I put it in the bin).

I went upstairs to find the cat lying on the bed with a bit of plastic bag stuck under his side. I pulled it out and asked him to explain, and he sniffed it wide-eyed as if to say "what is this, Mum? I haven't seen it before".

    Little bugger ?

I think cats eat grass to make themselves sick when they feel poorly so I doubt it will give him any bother.

Our cats have licked out curry trays but had the runs afterwards and never did it again!

Yes, one of ours loves Marmite and licks it off the carpet if the kids drop their toast. I'm surprised she doesn't get carpet burns on her tongue.
