Should I change my venue!?!

038813m, 25 April, 2016 at 21:57 Posted on Planning 0 6

I instantly fell in love with my venue, both the look and the feel of it - very relaxed, informal and vintage, just what I wanted. However they have just had a refurb and to me it now has a very different feel and look and no matter how hard I try I can no longer imagine my wedding there. The problem is the wedding is in less than 4 months - so do I just suck it up and try to make the most of it or go through the panic of trying to move the whole day...ceremony and reception venue etc., plus risk losing deposits and not even find anywhere else, especially as it's in August.

I feel like I'm going mad trying to decide what to do and all of my energy is going on this decision when I feel like I should now just be doing the little things!

I think before you start making hasty decisions you need to see if there is anywhere else you would want to hold your wedding and whether it is available on your date. If you can't find anywhere you want with availability then that's your decision made for you.

Is there anything you can do in terms of decorating which would give you back what you feel is missing?

I second the PP point- is there anywhere else you actually want to have as your venue? Is it within budget? Is it available? Ask yourselves these questions first, because if any of them are 'no', then it might mean you have to stay where you are.

It might be that you would lose your deposit if you left this venue- unless there something specific in the contract about it being agreed on the look of the venue before the renovations?

You're also giving yourself a lot of stress so close to the wedding!

Have you looked up some decor ideas that can maybe bring it back to the feel of the venue when you first looked at it? Maybe if you can find something like that, it'll make you feel more relaxed about the whole thing.

Agreeing with the above. Set yourself a time limit, say: 2 weeks. If you find something more suitable within that time frame and it is available and affordable, go for it. If not, then stay where you are. Like that you give yourself the chance to find a new "THE venue" but you don't stress yourself until the very last minute.

I agree with everyone else, do not give yourself potentially more stress than needed, I would book and appointment to look round it with the coordinator and really visualise if it can be "put back" with decorations or if they have anything left from the refurb that keeps the same feel. It must be heartbreaking falling in love with a venue and it be perfect then they change it, but there's still a little time to try and fix the venue.

Thank you for the replies. They have pretty much suggest what I have been thinking about doing - looking around first at what might be available.

Unfortunately I can't see a way around fixing what has been lost from my current venue...it originally had mis-matched old wooden tables and chairs that went perfectly with my afternoon tea theme (no chair covered or table clothes wanted or needed). The owner has said these have all been disposed of and replaced with completely upholstered chairs and the tables they now have need covering with table clothes. And these are just some of the changes that seem to have made the whole venue feel very different Smiley sad

I'm sure I will get it sorted out, it just feels like such a big thing to be dealing with so close to the day xx

Could you hire in those sort of tables and chairs? Or any other vintage/rustic items which would help turn it back to how it looked before?

That is a conversation me and the OH have already had, but that would be an added cost to our budget for items that I assumed I was already paying for the use of and I'm already beginning to feel aggrieved at paying for a venue that is not what I originally booked...also not sure I could get away with removing the new chandelier from the ceiling lol
