Should i hire a hair stylist - short hair

Mel, 26 February, 2021 at 08:23 Posted on Planning 0 7
Hi!
I’d always thought I’d not need a hair stylist for my wedding as my hair is almost a pixie cut, it’s an asymmetric cut but there’s nothing you can do to change the style as such.
I have a headband which can be put in by my bridesmaids, but I’m worried my hair will just look a bit flat and lifeless. Is it worth hiring someone just so they can give it a bit of volume and set it in place? All I usually do is blow dry and straighten. Just seems I’d be paying a lot of money for not much.Or if anyone has any styling advice on how to do this myself that would be great! I’m marrying in August so I’d have time to practice Thanks!

Do it yourself. There will be so many resources online to teach you how to do it. Practice it, work out what you like, get someone to take loads of photos of your dry run and save the money!

    Hi Mel,

I would say it's completely up to you. It's always really nice to have your hair done on your wedding day, even if it won't look drastically different. You can let the hair stylist do the work while you get to drink prosecco (if that's your thing) and chat with your friends. It's more the experience of being indulged I suppose. But saying that they might actually be able to make your hair hold for longer? If you have trouble with keeping fly aways in place, they could help with this, or give you that extra bit of volume you desire.

If you are unsure, I would say to speak to a hair stylist and get their opinion. They could surprise you with something you hadn't thought about. They could also be honest and say that they wouldn't be able to do much. That way you know you've looked into it.

It can be an expense you could do without, so following that conversation, if you feel that it's not really worth it, then that would be totally understandable. You could always invest the money in a bespoke bridal hair piece instead.

    With love,

    Hey!

I have relatively short hair and I'll be having it curled on the day, but I'm just going to have one of my friends do it for me, only because that would make me far more relaxed on the morning.

However, you do whatever you think is best for you!

    Hey,

I have the same hairstyle and was only after a blow dry (to give it a bit of volume) and most people quoted me close to £100 as I was the bride! I decided against it in the end and will get one of my friends to do it for me.

If you've got a hairband you shouldn't need to do too much either to it.

Thanks for all your replies. I think I will do it myself then, thinking about how much I will get quoted I can put the money towards something else for the wedding. I'll need to get practicing then!

You only have one wedding day (hopefully!) so in my opinion treat yourself!
