Should my hen do cause so much anxiety?

Hannah, 2 January, 2023 at 11:21 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6
Hi!
So I’m getting married in august and I have 7 bridesmaids. My sister is my maid of honour. My best friend has taken charge of my hen do as there’s not been much planning gone into it quite yet. My best friend sent a message to my bridesmaids WhatsApp group with dates, etc and it really annoyed my sister to a point where she is angry at me. It’s made me feel so anxious, but surely I should be happy that there’s been some movement on planning?
I’m also having a separate hen do for my family that will be a little calmer and more mum appropriate 😂 is this something other people have done?
Thanks! Xxx

I wouldn’t worry too much about things moving slowly - my hen do is in February and my sister did most of the organising in December, so only a couple of months before. I gave my bridesmaids clear ideas about what I did and didn’t want, and then said I don’t want to know anything more about it so I don’t have to worry.

I’m not exactly having a separate “family” hen do, but my Mum, sister and bridesmaids will be staying at mine the night before my wedding and we’ll have a nice dinner, some drinks (not too many!) and do some girly relaxing bits together. I did think about having a more formal family hen do, but it was too much bother thinking about organising!

I too am getting nervous for my hen do, getting married later in the year but heard nothing on the planning yet! I have a backup option though, a handful of my friends who won’t be on the hen do (strangely my hen do is very family orientated, with aunties and cousins and a couple of friends!) have discussed arranging a weekend away before the wedding where we can do whatever I fancy! Most likely just relaxed things like going for a walk/ swim, watching movies, playing some funny hen do games and that managed to calm my hen do nerves! Knowing I had a weekend away which is like a mini hen do has relaxed my panic, maybe you could think of something like that? Or even could your meal the night before be seen as a second mini hen do?

Well firstly it isnt supposed to be stressful

If you are looking for ideas for a hen do which is fun and suits both your girly besties ( and boy besties if that) and your mums plus other older female & family members then how about the following which i coorganised for my daughters hen do with her bestie, (obviously I was half way there as I am a florist - but I didnt push this it was her bestie who asked me ) so what did we do ?

FLOWER CROWN WORKSHOP & HIGH TEA, Followed by the theatre and then drinks intown

    * Hired a back room / hall a pub ( which also had attached accomodation so girlies who travelled had somewhere to stay).....

    * cocktails or prosseco on arrival

    * a flower crown workshop ( I attached a tiara and veil to my daugters)

    * then they all had a high tea wearing their flower crowns

    * photo booth opportunity I had made a floral decorated frame adn there were other props so some great sophisticated beautuful photos and some fun rather whacky ones too

    * then a few Mr and MRs style games where the chief hen had video's grooms to be answers !!

    * Followed by a wedding dress making competition made from loo roll and crepe paper

Then at the end the younger generation toddle off to watch a show at the local the theatre followed by more drinks in the local pub whlst still wearing their flower crowns and were the talk of the town, whilst the oldies stayed on at the pub for coffees.

This could also be organised in your home instead of a pub if you have a large enough aea or gazebo in the garden

    Happy hen do planning everyone.

If you are in Dorset then drop me a line as I offer Flower crown workshops too

If someone is offended, just let them talk it out amongst themselves and let them know you aren't involved in the planning in any way as a means to avoid getting involved in the drama . The second hen party is fairly popular, and I'll be hosting two of them: one for all of my friends, which will include an overnight stay, activities, and probably too many cocktails, and one for moms, aunts, and grandmothers, which will be a much more laid-back supper.
