Should we postpone our wedding

Sassy, 9 January, 2021 at 07:40 Posted on Planning 0 5
Hello.

We have our wedding planned for 29th May 2021, this is the original date that we've had booked for the last 2 years. We need to make a decision on whether to proceed with the date or to postpone. I'm aware that if we postpone then we are potentially looking at dates of 2022. I'm dreading having to make the decision and really don't want to have a micro wedding with just 15 guest. What's your thoughts x

We were due to get married on the same date but chose to postpone as we didn’t want to cut numbers either. My partner was open to postponing but I really wasn’t and it was a difficult decision but the relief was almost instant once we had a new date! I guess it’s about weighing up your options and what you want to get out of your day. For something that takes so much planning and financial input, we wanted our day to be right so that was the best decision for us. Having the day come and go with the prospect that it still could have gone ahead was something I was stuck on but I’ve stressed so much to date and it’s really ruined my experience so it was a no brainer for us. Hope you get sorted and I’m sure your day will be amazing whenever you have it x

    Thankyou Laura
Yes it is a stressful time, not knowing what the right decision is. Good to hear that you have secured another date. I guess whatever the outcome it will still be a lovely day. Gooduck with yours too and hope you have a fabulous day x

Hi Sarah, we are due to get married at the beginning of May and are holding out until mid- March to decide. Maybe set yourself a hard date in a few weeks by which you’ll decide? Things do change in a matter of weeks although it does depend how big your guest list is, as realistically I think it will still be capped by the government for a long time. It could hopefully be more than 15 people by May (in Scotland it is up to 50 people in “Level/Tier0”), but it’s impossible to know right now in the “eye of the storm” of this whole Covid thing.

Either way we will (hopefully) still do our legal ceremony on the original May date. This is giving me so much peace of mind as this is ultimately what it’s about for us. And we will have the big party of 100 at the original venue then or whenever we can!! We can’t get back any deposits paid so we definitely won’t/can’t cancel the big party in any case, so we will have that in May or - most likely - in 2022/23. Would you consider a split arrangement like this maybe? x

We were due to be married 23rd May last year and it was postponed until 29th May this year, I had a meeting with the venue last week and they doubt that weddings will be much larger than 30 by then and so we have pushed back to early September in a bid to have as normal day as possible. Outside hosting is slightly easier in summer and on the rules and most venues can adapt to suit..... or so I have been told anyway.

    Hi Carla.
Sorry you've had to postpone your wedding it's such a difficult situation for us all. Our wedding was always going to be small during the day we only had 36 guests. We're hoping by the end of may we can have at least 30. Not really to concerned about evening guests as the day guests all love a good party so we will still have a great time. Keeping my fingers crossed, hope all goes well for you on your big day.
