BrideMrsT2B, 13 January, 2011 at 21:38 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hello Everyone,

What are people having during the signing of the register? We aren't too traditional when it comes to music and I'm not sure about having classical music playing so was wondering if anyones having alternatives?

We had Con te Partiro by Francesco Sartori and Lucio Quarantotto. A beautiful piece of music. I'm not sure the words are altogether appropriate so we had the Italian version. Although the title 'Time to Say Goodbye' was a head nod and acknowledgement of moving from my old life/family name to my new one. The tears flow every time I hear it!

So far we're having Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder.

Don't forget people will want you to pose for photos etc. so it will go on longer than you think so best to get about 5 songs to play just in case.

Aw I had songbird going up the aisle too - it was beautiful x

    Some ideas:

all you need is love - beatles

you and me song - wannadies

    happy together - turtles

never tear us apart - inxs

    Thank you - dido

zoom - fat larry and ???

you raise me up - westlife though I Know they're not the original one!

    My best friend - Queen

never let her slip away - andrew gold

It's difficult because everyone has different tastes in music but I guess if you two have songs you like that aren't overly loud or vulgar (can you imagine!!) then why not use these? I don't see why they need to be classical ?

We are having Schubert's Ave Maria for soprano and choir (arranged by my son in law) and "There's a place for us" from West Side Story sung by my daughter. Apart from witnesses not having any family etc at the actual signing bit so are hoping it will be over very quickly, then we are going to light a candle in private for my dad.

We had a musical versions of songs by the band that we discussed when we first met:

I walked up the aisle to "nothing else matters"

And signed the register the "hero of the day"

We are having "One Day Like This" by Elbow, which I absolutely adore. It finishes on something of a gospel-ish, violin-ish crescendo so struggling for something afterwards. But it's 8.5 mins long so might be enough in itself.

I looove it. The lyric "when my face is chamois-creased" is great because my boy always wakes up with a really squashed face. And who could argue with "Holy cow I love your eyes" or "What made me behave that way? I can only think it must be love"? Plus, we saw then in Benicassim (music festival in Spain, sorry if you knew that) in 2009, playing this with the sun setting behind them. Amazing!

    Hello Everyone!!

I'm an organist - I specialise in playing instrumental arrangements of ANYTHING a couple wants, on an organ that be taken pretty much anywhere and sound like pretty much anything!

Some I have played for signing of the register:

You Are Everything - Mary J Blige

    Dreams - Gabrielle

    Canon in D - Pachelbel

    Chanson de Matin - Elgar

Everyone is different! Go for a song that means something to you as a couple, or a song with fab words.

(I am getting married in Aug 2013 - not even started planning yet... ARGH so excited!!)
