Signing register book.. no more?

Jessica, 4 May, 2021 at 20:45 Posted on Planning 0 5
So apparently in the UK there is no signing of the register book anymore during the ceremony and its all done online? Does this mean there will be nothing during the ceremony? We've planned music for this section but just wondering if we now don't need these. Any info would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

I think there should still be a "Marriage Document" prepared before the wedding that will be signed by the couple and the witnesses as like now but not a separate register book like now. There has also been a change in that Mums are now included instead of just the Father.

A little update on this. I have just today shot a Church wedding under the new system. The marriage document that you sign is just a boring A4 black and white printed piece of paper that you do not get to take away. But what this church has done is create a certificate on heavyweight ivory paper that is signed my the Church and given to you as a scroll on the day. Its not official but just something that the Vicar thought would nice to do otherwise you get nothing on the day.

Also what the COE Church have done is produce their own "register" that is like a faux one. It looks like the old one apart from the colour of the cover. Again it is not official but just a record of marriages at that Church. Each Church has to buy one if they want one so not every Church may have one.

Looks like we got married just in time then - glad we got a marriage certificate!

Also, what do you do when you need to prove change of name? We've had to show our certificate to banks etc to prove it.

It will all be recorded electronically but not sure how that info passes to the places you have to inform 🤔

I think its all changing to digital online with a central database. The marriage document that you sign in the Church - that A4 bit of paper ( only done a Church one with the new system so far ) is then sent to be fully registered. So I wonder if banks ect now even need to "see" it as it all on line an they can now just look there.

Got to admit that even though I keep my finger on the pulse on all things wedding, this one did slip past me. Its not a massive thing but registrars and vicars /churches / priests are working out ways of handling it.

Traditionally it was a "must have shot" of signing the registrar - somehow it feels that is now ending. Not that it is a bad thing because it is never a great shot any way ---- unless want you risk upsetting the vicar /priest/ registrar as you are not supposed to take shots during the actual signing. which is why it is posed afterwards.
