Simple second wedding advice

We're just starting to plan our wedding which will be second for each of us.
I'm so stuck with what we want and trying to find something that fits.
We want something really small (about 15 people max) but possibly an evening with others (about 40 people max). We don't want formalities like best man and giving speeches etc and we're not ones for a drunken disco on the evening, but we do want it to be special and a time friends and family can come together. Has anyone done anything similar and can offer and ideas or advice? Part of me tempted to just do a quick service with just our kids and save the money, but I'd love to make more of it.

I completely underhand wanting to go for a quick service ( I have contemplated it numerous times!). However, if you do want to do something with your guests but want something small, could you do a registry wedding with your 15 guests and then move onto a small restaurant/ hotel/ pub etc that you have privately hired for the 40 people. Alternatively, could you hold the reception at your home or a friends home and order in a large takeaway/ caterers?
