Singing waiters etc...?

NoMoore, 3 July, 2015 at 13:36 Posted on Planning 0 12

So H2B would like surprise singing waiters... so I'm trying to work the cost into the budget and decide if it's naff or good fun. I've found one that seems to do songs that aren't cheesy and also offer a 'love actually' experience should we want one... they sing 'all you need is love' as you turn to leave the ceremony.

Any thoughts please? I don't want it to be pure tacky and cheesy but equally I know H2B would enjoy it... is the ceremony bit and surprise waiters a bit too much? It's £1050 for the ceremony surprise, 30 minutes during post ceremony drinks and then the surprise singing at the end of the meal so I didn't think it was TOO bad for the amount of entertainment you get.

Thanks Smiley smile

If your H2B wants it and you can afford it then why not?

I wouldn't part with the cash for it, but I don't think it's tacky.

Thanks for the reply... I think I just need some validation to do it... and make a decision on how far to take it! Smiley smile

I think it's a nice idea, but it also depends on your guests. I think children would love it, whereas a traditional older couple may think it was tacky. In my opinion though, it's your wedding, and if it's something both you and your OH want, forget what other people think! ?

We're having singing waiters to liven up our wedding meal too!

Where are you getting married? I did enjoy them at someone else's wedding.. I've just checked the price and it's only £100 to have the ceremony stuff but I just don't know if it's too much! Smiley smile

We've shot a couple of weddings with singing waiters during the meal and they do often go down well! They also make for some great photos of guests!

Does the price you've been quoted include 3 performances then? If so, it wont be as much of a surprise later in the day will it, if guests have already seen them earlier in the day?

Having seen them before, I genuinely think one performance would be ample.

If you do decide to have something going on during the meal in particular make sure you tell your photographers and videographer (if you have them) even if it's a secret from your guests.

On both occasions that we've had singing waiters perform, no one thought to mention it to us- even after getting a detailed schedule of what's going on throughout the day. So it's by pure chance/photographers intuition that we've managed not to miss capturing it, as it's happened mid-meal when we're off photographing other things/swapping batteries and all that business.

Thank you for your reply. From what I can tell, they use different singers so it's not obvious it's the same people... So it still wouldn't be as much of a surprise but the guests still won't know. I think I need to stop thinking about it for a bit and then come back to it!

A wedding breakfast surprise in particular goes down really well. I don't do a 'waiters' act but often do a surprise set, and everyone loves a song a long towards the end of the meal. As Sam&Louise say they always make for some amazing photos of people's reactions, as well as everyone dancing and singing along!

    This is me!!

Also check out The Three Waiters. I believe they are the original singing waiter performers who came up with the original idea. They perform in a more classical style and are always fantastic performers.

I have performed at a few weddings with singing waiters. Some were very good and others not so much. Do your research in to the people you book.

I would really recommend Simon at Elegant Entertainment. I've seen him perform and he is amazing. He will do surprise singing chef/waiter, alone or in a trio. Just a tip tho- when you're calling around for prices, don't mention it's a wedding until you've got the price. I found that (like most suppliers) as soon as they hear the W word they add to the price. I just said mine was for a party initially. For a decent performer you will look to pay between £500 and £1000 for them to spend the whole day with you - as they'll be merging in with other staff/guests as part of the act. The price should include them setting up of sound systems, microphones too.

Thank you all for replying... I finally asked a friend who had some singers at her wedding where she booked them and I've got them for £460 for the post-breakfast singing.

Much better than the price I had been quoted before and both of us have seen them... at that price I can also keep it quiet from him so it's a surprise for him too! Now I just need to persuade him to have a videographer ? and to have an ipod playing in the background post-ceremony (want rat pack and that kind of music playing) instead of a live performer.
