Slightly o/t....what pill do you recommend?

sr3693, 14 April, 2011 at 13:28 Posted on Planning 0 62

Umm i've been thinking about this the last couple of months bevuase my monthlys have been a bit messed up and my skin has been terrible!

I have tried microgynon, i was on it for 6 years, had a break for 6 months then went back on it and it just did not like me! moods were horrendous!

I have a couple since which didnt help either now I am trying marvelon...only first month so we will see how it goes?

Any recommendations? I want to be able to control things for the wedding and im hoping the pill will help my skin!

Thanks Smiley smile

I was HELLISH on Microgynon, I thought I was going mental. I'm just on plain old Marvelon now which is suiting me fine. I think you have to try a few though and see what suits you.

I have the same problem with my skin and my doctor recommended me the Yasmin pill. It works wonders except the week before my period! I have a little bit of a breakout but NOWHERE NEAR how bad it used to be.

I struggled with moods and headaches on microgynon...been on Noromin for ages now with not a problem. WSS - I think its trial and error till you find one that suits.

I was also on microgynon-awful stuff! Also its prone to give acne which they decided to tell after a year of struggling with my skin!

Also had marvelon which was ok ish butt he best one i've found is yasmin, it just seemed to keep me 'normal' and monthlys are lots better.

There are thousands of pills to try so if one doesnt suit then try another but dont forget they do take a while to get into your system properly.

I'm on Cilest and have been since I was 16. No problems, skin is fine, moods are normal, although symptoms vary from person top person.

My sister was a nightmare on Microgynon... I have been on Logynon for the last 10 years with absolutely no problems, it is a very low dose pill though.

I was on mirogynon for ages and never had any trouble with it - then my doctor's didn't have any in one day so I'm now on Ovranette or something like that.

Might ask for a change to Marvelon. Not because I'm having problems but because I want to be on a pill that sounds like it should be a comic book hero's secret weapon or arch nemesis

    Take that Marvelon *kapow!!*

Implanon - best thing I ever did! I'm on my third implant, I had the 5 stick one before I had my son, and I've had an implanon one for 5 years. I didn't put on weight with it, I don't get bleeds often, if I do it's just enough to need to consider underwear choice and a pantyliner (Sorry if thats TMI!). Skin is gorgeous - better than when I was on the pill, no mood swings or issues.

I'd recommend it to anyone who wants 2-3 years baby-free. It's just a scratch for local anaesthetic, an ache afterwards, followed by a week of itch while is settles in.

I have been on Dianette for 10 years now, as I have acne prone skin. Never had any issues at all and my skin has always been clear on it. Only ever had bad breakouts when drs have tried taking me off it! Some drs seem to be worried about putting you on it for a length of time because it's supposed to increase the risk of VTE, but if you read all of the proper research, there is no concrete evidence of links between Dianette and VTE.

I've been on dianette for years and my dr has no problem with this - I don't smoke, not overweight etc so not 'high risk' for any problems

    Microgynon - Mood Swings

Marvalon - mood swings & really bad stomach pains (ended up on the sofa for 3 days crying and bent over every period)

Cilest - didnt even try it as friend got preggers on that one

Implant - constant period for 6 mths and very def psyhco!

im now on the mini pill Cezerette, which i love as i have no periods at all now, mood swings are minimum and no period pains Smiley smile

I think its just trial and error what works for 1 person might not neccessarily work for you, i spend ages looking thing up on the net about it but as u can see didnt really help me much lol!

Have you found that you get any patches of darker pigment when you're in the sunshine? I get a little bit on my face and my mum thinks it must be the dianette

No, not at all. I'd like to say the only negative is that I put on a bit of weight when I first started taking it, but I'm not exactly sure if that is because of the Dianette!

Think all those (def microgynon) mentioned are the type of pill you take then have a week break when you get a "period". These are definately the type you want.

Don't ever let them put you on the pill you take every day for the full month (mini pill I think) I have tried a few - Loesterin I was the last one.

Crazy b**** central and bleeding ALL MONTH!!!

Bleeding and being crazy are great contraceptives! No bloke will want to come near you!

Ive been on dianette since I was 16 - had to go on along with roaccutane to sort my acne - twice Smiley sad

2 years ago my doctor suggested I try yasmin & my skin erupted again & I nearly had to go on roaccutane to clear it up. After 3 months he fput me back on dianette. So dianette is the only pill that seems to work for me & my doctor says there is no problem with my taking it long term.

The only thing will be when OH & I try to start a family - my skin will be a total red lumpy sore pus filled mess Smiley sad

Reading through this thread... makes you kinda sick of being female huh? The things we have to do. Is there a pill for men? That makes them moody, spotty, bleed, put on weight, depressed, psychopathic?! Hehehe!!

Cezerette was one of the ones I tried - hell and constant bleeding! Shows that everyone is different and it is a case of trial and error!

I've heard good things about Yasmin though but I've heard it isn't available everywhere as it's really expensive so some healthboards don't offer it. My friend found this out as she was at uni in a affluent rural area - doc had no problem prescribing it as they had plenty of budget for family planning, but when she moved back to a inner city were resources were very stretched, she wasn't allowed it - but had to go on to another cheaper brand. I'm sure this isn't true in all areas, but just her experience.

I'll definately be paying my doctor a visit before I come off it. He was my skin specialist as well so I know he does understand the severity of it. Not nice!

I am on Femodene (don't think anyone has mentioned that one?!) and it seems fine - I don't have bad skin (touch wood) normally and this hasn't affected my skin, I still have heavy periods and some pain though and that may be because this pill is not the one for me but I was on Microgynon (sp) before this one and I turned into a complete psycho too, I took myself off it after a few weeks!! When I was 16 I was cileste for a while but can't remember what it was like. I was not on any of them for contraceptive reasons, just to reduce the flow etc as I don't trust the pill and wanted to wait until I was married so cannot comment on that either....sorry not been much use have I haha! As other people have said though I think each person reponds to each pill in a different way although the microgynon seems to be a regular 'mood swing/psycho' one!

In my opinion, Loestrin 20 or Loestrin 30 are the best. Quite low doses but strong enough to work and keep periods at bay. No side effects and v.light periods, just a normal 21 day pill but its the only one I would ever trust to take. xx

Hmmm seems like Mum could be right then - did your friend's go away when she came off Dianette? I don't think mine's too bad, only my dad ever points it out! Cheers Dad!
