Small intimate wedding on a budget - looking for venues. Help!

Shakira, 4 July, 2022 at 23:14 Posted on Planning 1 3

Hi!

We are currently in very early stages of wedding planning and are currently trying to find a venue that fits with all of our ideals in terms of size, cost and what we can do at the venue.

Our guest list is quite small, we only have 36 on the list and that's including a +1 for most if everyone on the list brings one! We're literally just wanting close family and friends that are basically family! This has made it difficult to find something that fits the ideas we have in our heads.. because most venues are designed for up to 100 or more guests.. meaning the cost will be huge and our guest list wont fill the room!

We're really looking for something that is between registry office and a big fancy wedding. Just a nice happy medium. Small, intimate but with a little fancy-ness!

We also don't want a typical sit down 3 course meal. every venue we have looked at that offers this, the menus just aren't to our taste. Our family is more of a burger, toad in the hole and gammon and chips type family! so smoked salmon and heritage vegetables just wont cut it! We have been toying with the idea of a fish and chip van or BBQ style meal, but we are struggling to find a venue that is small enough for our guest list, doesn't cost the earth, will accommodate alternative dinner arrangements and still be a beautiful venue!

We are living in Horsham but will travel if the venue is perfect! we even toyed with the idea of Cornwall if we found something we loved, so distance isn't necessarily an issue as long as it's not a days journey to get there, we do need to consider how our guests will get there.

Does anybody have any ideas on venues that will fit these requirements?

Thanks in advance!

How about a local pub? I used to live in Horsham, try the boars head, cowdry arms in balcombe. Or maybe Kaya in the park? Good luck!

Get married at the registry office and then book a nice pub for the meal. We had a church wedding but booked a pub for our reception - every bit as lovely as some of the grand local wedding venues, but far more relaxed and way cheaper - all we had to pay for was the food.

Hi! It sounds like you’re looking for a small, intimate wedding venue that offers a happy medium between a registry office and a big fancy wedding, while allowing for more casual dining options that reflect your family’s tastes. With just 36 guests, finding a space that isn’t oversized but still beautiful can be tricky, especially if you want to avoid the typical sit-down three-course meals. Venues that allow for alternative catering—like a BBQ, a fish and chip van, or even a casual menu similar to what you might find at burger urge menu —could be a great fit, giving your celebration a relaxed, personal vibe without compromising on style. Since you’re based in Horsham but open to traveling, you could consider boutique country houses, small barns, or private estates in West Sussex, Surrey, or even the South Coast, where many offer flexible catering options and charming intimate settings perfect for your guest list and budget.
