Small Wedding

Loulou10, 22 January, 2013 at 20:07 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi All, My first post and I'm after some advice please. I'm having a really small, intimate family wedding in July this year, about 20 of us will be there including our two children (this is my second marriage). We are having a sit down meal in the afternoon after the ceremony which will finish about 5pm and that's it really as we like the idea of having a low key affair which isn't just because of finances it's what we would like. My questions are; I like the idea of a sweet table, do you think this would look out of place at such a small affair? Anyone have any ideas for favours as it's just family members I'd like something different? I think for the meal we will just have one long table for us all, what do you think or what are good ideas for the table for small weddings? I'm driving myself mad with all of this so would love your opinions. Thank you xx

    I don't think a sweet table would look out of place, if you want it, go for it!! The only thing I'd say with one long table is that not everyone will be able to "see" the bride and groom, even though it's small I'd still have head table and then round guest tables!

    I'm having a small wedding but we're having a late wedding and not eating until 1800hrs ish. The venue sent some of these layouts for us to look at;

    Hello and welcome. This sounds lovely.

    The smallest wedding I have shot included 7 people. They had one table so nobody was split. This worked out really well. A sweetie table would not be out of place at all.

    On a side note, a long table is my favourite idea. I had a baby shower and had 30 guests. I also had one long table and you can make it look amazing. I have attached pictures of it here for you...

    We had quite a small wedding, and just had two long tables. We would have liked just one but couldn't quite fit it in. Though we couldn't see all our guests throughout the meal it was easy and quick to move around a little between courses. We also had quite a small sweet buffet and our guests loved it.

    That's brilliant thanks so much for your responses! I think we will go with the idea of one long table. The family who will be attending are very close family members and I'd like them near us. I'm pleased that you all agree with the sweetie table idea I really like this idea but I must remember not to go to over the top with it or better still eat all the sweets before the actual day!!! Thank you x

    Hi we are having a small intimate wedding too, 15 including us and all family members. We are having one large oval table. I think the sweetie table is a good idea. I have also been trying to come up with something different for favours but still undecided! Did you have anything in mind for yours? I am also busy trying to decide on gifts for bridesmaids etc xx

    Hi :0) Your plans sound lovely..... And I know what you mean about favours... So hard to choose something. Soooooo just a quick idea, seeing as it's going to be a lovely intimate affair..... How about writing a short, personalised poem for each guest, outlining a special memory you have shared, something about your feelings for them, maybe a witty ditty even? You could put them in miniature photo frames too.... At least you know nobody else will have the same thing, and would make the day even more special and memorable for your guests. Hmmmm..... Think I might have a go at that myself, although with over 80 guests that's alot of creative juices I need to find!!! Good luck with it all :0) xx

    Hello and welcome!

    We having a small affair too with just one long table I really like the idea of everyone sitting together.

    As for favours your really spoilt for choice I personally prefer favours that you can eat or drink or failing that toiletries that you can actually use rather then something that will just sit in a draw afterwards collecting dust.

    I have just had a look at the fudge fancies website and they are lovely! Have submitted an enquiry for a quote! I like the personal poem idea too ... something light-hearted and fun! May make little scrolls and tie with ribbon. I ordered personalised ribbon with our names and wedding date months ago without even knowing what favours I would be doing! ?
