So downhearted, need a recommendation for dj/lighting.

SunnyBrownDiamonds138, 21 May, 2014 at 20:24 Posted on Planning 0 6

So this evening me and the OH went to a wedding fair. We met with a recommended supplier of our venue that does dj, lighting, back drop, dance floor etc. Initially we were just enquiring about uplighters, but knowing our venue the guy started showing us lots of photos. I was just planning on getting a dj and hiring some uplighters (budgeted £600). These photos showed what our venue looks like with judt a dj (ridiculous) as it has quite a high ceiling and is largish!! To get it looking wow you need some (not all) of the stuff he was suggesting! Now I know he is trying to sell their product but it wss obvious to see from the photos. Now I was willing to put my budget up a bit taking this into consideration (£700-750) but no his quote (deal) was 2k!!!

We cannot afford this, but im so disheartened our venue will not be shown at its best, we are paying so much I want everything to be perfect.

So im wondering if anyone has used a similar company for a cheaper price. I am in the essex area??

I don't have any recommendations, but is your venue Down Hall by any chance? Sounds like our experience, we fell for it but I'm sure that there must be cheaper people out there. We had the uplighters and the backdrop in the end. The pictures they showed us did seem to be the complete opposite of the package they offer, I'm sure there's a middle ground which will look just as good.

Yep, that's who we used. We did end up getting pretty sucked in by their sales pitch and ended up with the dancefloor with lights too, oops! It might be worth trying to negotiate with them if you're using them for the DJ too, perhaps they'll offer you a deal depending on the time of year etc.

We had an amazing wedding day though, I'm jealous that you still have yours to come!

When you go to a club and the room is full of people and the music is jumping and the lights are flashing, do you actually notice the height of the ceiling? They take photos making it look cavernous and empty so you will want to fill it with their stuff: save your 1.4K and fill it with another 20 friends instead!

They are trying to make you pay to make their venue look its best, when you won't notice on the night and therefore you may as well pay your photographer the extra 1.4K to not take the photo which makes the ceiling look tall. I've been to lots of weddings in the last couple of years, and can honsetly say I have never said (or overheard anyone saying) 'well the Bride looks amzing, everyone is so happy, the food is fab. It would have been a perfect day except they didn't have a backdrop and additional lights: ruined the wedding for me!'. ?

I have to agree with MOMB. No-one worthwhile will be looking at the ceiling! Save your money !
