SO MANY dreams, but, which ones REAL?!?!

Like most girls I've been dreaming about my wedding forever. The problem is, the dreams have changed every time I've moved, changed lifestyle, changed boyfriend (!) and gotten older.

Candlelit church, wildflower meadow, cathedral ruin, tropical garden, grand old theatre....

now I'm actually GETTING married, and I hope to only do it once!! How do you work out which dream is the right one?! At the moment I haven't booked anything, so I'm still flexible. The budget isn't huge, but you can do almost anything if you put your mind to it.

(Except the royal opera house £15,000 room rental!!! BEFORE food and drink!!! Maybe not eh?)

how did you settle on one "version" of your wedding? I don't want to get there and think "I wish I'd had this, or done that...."

You of course mean, when it rains. What about Pitlochry? They have that enchanted woods thing, i wonder if you'd be allowed to get married there? That would be really pretty!

I was being constructive. Why do you assume that all wedding hotels are the same? They don't have to be at all. If you want it to be different, then make it different. Use your imagination.

I threw the cloud suggestion in there because you seem to be rejecting every other possible venue.

Sorry, I'll go google ghillie dhu...

pitlochry woods would be awesome, but we all know there's the midges to consider, and unless you have spare money to apply for a licence, you have to marry at an "approved location" which sadly the fun ones like this aren't...

and Ali....I'm only dismissing every other venue because I've been thinking about weddings for about 2/3 years (basically since I met my man) and I've considered basically everything at one point or another!!

I never had a wedding "dream" apart from to actually be married. I went to the registry office and had a small reception in a local pub. It was lovely and we all had a good day, were still as married as anyone else. You don't need to go totally OTT to have a good day.

Have thought about humanist, but they need to inspect the site beforehand and they charge you travel per mile for every meeting etc. seeing as for 2015 the basic ceremony charge is already £395, it's quite pricey.

Just looked at ghillie dhu, AWESOME, but our party is only 50, and we can only really afford under £90 ph all in, this venue has a minimum of 70, with £500 venue hire. :-(

What about trying for off season? We got married in December and alot of venues were happy to allow a smaller party for the day than their minimum (our venue said minimum 80, but we only had about 50 for the day)

I'm confused by this thread. You've asked for help yet dismissed every thing everyone has suggested. In all the years you've been dreaming of your wedding, did you only find the negatives? Sod the deposit and get a retro tipi

To be fair I dismissed about 50 venues before I found mine because there was a problem with everyone of them.

And a retro tipi is way over our budget. Would love to have it, but can't.

And no, I haven't only seen the negatives, I've just basically already considered 99.9% of the options, and if I hadn't found a reason not to have each one, then I wouldn't have this issue, would I?!

unfortunately, dreams/ideas + reality/practicalities/red tape etc rarely match

By the looks of things, you are pretty set in what you want, and don't seem willing to look at alternatives, or anything else.

Purely as a suggestion, why don't you spend a little more time saving to afford the day you want, because by the looks of things, perfection is what you're looking for, but sadly, you can't have the perfection on a grand scale that you want, on a small budget.

**not saying you can't have perfection on a small budget, we did, so i know it's possible**

We're getting married in a distillery.... Definitely different and hopefully very personalised as they've never done a wedding before. But there arte p[lenty other distilleries that "do" weddings. How about a historic scotland site? Humanist is the way to go if you want something different. Yeah it's more expensive but it gives you so many different options.

Don't worry about public transport for your guests - put on busses or taxis for them. You need to decide what you want then work out the logistics.

Have researched the caves too. All good except my granny is claustrophobic, and we need some solution for babysitting the kids in the evening...as this doesn't have accommodation that's an issue.

    (yes I know....negative again)

I think you need to write down your 'must haves' then a separate list of your 'nice to haves'.

Compile a list of venues that meet your 'must haves' then compare them on the basis of your 'nice to haves'.

The one that ticks the most boxes (or the most important boxes) on your 'nice to haves' is the winner. Job done.

To be honest, I think the wedding might be off for a good while now anyway. Got a letter from the bank saying they're dropping my overdraft from £1500 to £0. The overdraft is currently maxxed out. Wtf am I going to find £1500 by march?

Maybe you should ask all your guests for £50 each? Isnt that what you did on the honeymoon gift list thread before you edited all your posts?

Sorry, bank stuff. They reduce the allowed overdraft to £0 in march, which means if I don't pay it off by them they'll charge me £25 per day until I do

That was the hotel in coylumbridge that we're thinking about. The orange carpet is what's putting me off. Was hoping someone would come up with a clever solution to put my mind at rest...

Excuse me!!! I am NOT a troll.

You lot ATTACKED me on the other thread, simply for giving an OP my advice, and mentioning what we were doing. A tonne of you attacked me for it, which was way over the top and unnecessary, especially seeing as it was like the second time I'd ever posted on here?! I tried to fight back, and you all kept shooting me down and ranting at me. I changed my name and tried to remove my posts because I had had enough abuse, and didn't want all that VENOM following me around this whole site. I am a genuine bride, these are genuine questions, and I came on here with good intentions looking to give and receive wedding advice.

Thankyou so much for hounding me from one page to another, poisoning people against me, and ruining this whole experience.

Personally I think you are all coming off as pretty horrible people. You've certainly made me feel pretty ***.

    Cheers

If you are a genuine person then fair enough, i apologise. However, you are saying that you dont know what kind of wedding you want, but a few days ago you had booked a honeymoon (which you asked your guests to pay for) and had booked a venue with an orange carpet. Just doesnt add up

I'm sorry, but you can afford £90 a head for 50 guests, but you can't afford to pay off your overdraft? Were you planning to do the wedding on credit? If so, maybe it is best to leave it for a while. Troll or not, I'm a firm believer in only having a wedding you can afford. If you're in debt (bad debt) now, it's not the best time to be throwing a big party on your dime. I'm also confused in that you said basically any budget was doable short of e £15k room rental thing, but now you have a very strict budget?

if you want to be married and you can't afford the wedding you want, go say your vows and get married on the cheap and wait until you can afford it to throw the party you want.
