so please educate a wii virgin

duggo, 25 April, 2008 at 20:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 26

MrDuggo and I aren't into the whole gaming thing, but the wii appealed because it was a bit mor active.

Now there's this new wii thing, which seems to involve exercise!

Does this replace the previous thing, or do you need both?

If you aren't into computer games are these still good? The tennis and bowling appealed on wii....

Can kind hitchers educate a gaming novice?

Wii Fit is a game for the wii, so you need a wii console. It consists of the game disk and a board you put on the floor that can detect pressure - and where the pressure is, so can detect movement, weight etc. It connects to the wii (wirelessly) like the game controllers do.

THe games are good even iof you aren't into computer games - there is a huge range of types of games.

I'm soo not a gamer but have really got into the wii as it's so intuitive. I'm a tennis addict and am loving guitar hero and any shooting type game.

So it might appeal? We hate driving games and mario or whatever (going back a few years), but the wii does sound fun, and more suitable for 30/40 somethings when entertaining a couple of friends?...

My sister has a wii - maybe we need to go fly to Aberdeen to try it out?

The Wii is brilliant fun! Bowling in particular is great. I'm SO not into consoles at all, but I do love the Wii...?

The wii is fab! The wii fit isn't released here until next month but I'd imagine we'll order it.

H has a PS3 as well and plays a lot of games on it, but the wii means that we both play, it's definitely a more social console and I love the fact that I can actually beat him on some of the wii games, where I usually get bored with standard games - although Guitar Hero on the PS3 is pretty good as well!

At the press lauch of Wii fit last year, Nintendo announced that while it would still do the gamers games they were concentrating on making the Wii and DS something that anyone can play. They are making the games so that anyone at any age or skill level can compete with each other. I belive they are trying to tap into the market of women and over 55's.

So even if you dont play games or have'nt played one before you can join in. Its fun and simple to use ( and cheaper than the other consoles).

I can beat anyone at tennis but my 7 year old is the bowling champion in our household and seems to be quite skilled at ski jumping as well.(who knew?)

I managed to get my 60+ year old parents playing a competitive game of tennis against each other (mum used to love tennis but can't play due to shoulder injury - she could play wii tennis with her left hand) and my brother and sister in law beating the proverbial out of each other in boxing (hilarious to watch especially after a few drinks). I've just ordered my Wii fit, should be here in less than a week ?

Great fun - and I'm not really a gamer

The Wii Fit was actually released today and I bought it on pre-order so now own one and it is, albeit temporarily, sold out.

My nine-year-old daughter already knows more about it than I do although I've banned her from assessing BMI etc. - that I consider is for adults only.

She's currently trying to swivel more than two hula-hoops ?.

    Fabulous fun ... so I'm told ?

I got Wii Fit today, love it!! Did the hula hooping, yoga and jogging. was great fun, not very proud of my wii fit age though! haha! It actually did feel like a mini workout, thought it would be a gimmick but was very impressed.

I picked up Wii Fit from Gamestation this morning; they had 120 delivered and when I phoned at about 10am they still had 105 left. Get yourself to a Gamestation if you want one! ?

Guitar hero is about well playing guitar! ? It's to gutar what paint by numbers is to art so there's no need to be at all musical but it's lots of fun.

I have only just got a wii, about a week ago and I am loving it. We have Mario Kart wii, Super Paper Mario and Endless Ocean. I love Mario, so will be getting the Olympic Games one too, but those who don't like Mario, there are plenty other games for them to get into. Endless Ocean is amazing, I love it.http://www.endlessocean.com/main/pc/index.html

Wii sports and wii fit are for more active people, I don't have wii fit yet, I am waiting until Christmas as I don't do traipsing round shops to be disappointed when it isn't in. It may or may not be cheaper some places by then too.

I like shooting games too, so may invest in a couple of gory ones such as Resident Evil 4 etc, and MrD will mostly be getting Pro Evo Soccer for his birthday ?.

I don't agree with that at all - I'm the least active person you could find and I LOVE Wii Sports, particularly the bowling! We've just bought Wii Fit (because H and I both need to lose weight and getting out around his shifts and my childcare requirements isn't always easy...) and we enjoyed that too, though have only played once. I quite fancy this one next -http://www.play.com/Games/Wii/4-/3438343/Carnival-Funfair-Games/Product.html

That is sooo wrong. It is for everybody to use. And the shops are overstock with them ,plus they do not cost the earth.

BTW I managed the tightrope thing as well?.

I didn't mean active people as in only those who go running everyday, I meant it was more active than your average platform game, good for entertaining. Sorry, it didn't come across right ?

We have this one and I'm not that impressed TBH - I find it quite fiddly and it doesn't 'flow' like the other games we have. The games are over a bit quick before you can get to grips with them. Sorry that's hard to explain. We have Mario Karts which is good and but we can't get to grips with the Olympics.

Like Catwoman, I'd disagree about the Wii Sports and Wii Fit being for active people - I am the least one of those that I can think of owing to personal circumstances but I really enjoy all of the games on there, especially the tennis.

Go and get one today, dont wait for christmas.?

You'll be screaming in laughter when you watch the other person trying to become the hula hoop champion? (lean to the left) and trying not to jump when you need to jump?.

Like I said, it came out wrong, what I meant was it was a more active game for the wii. And it may not cost the earth but I still can't afford it so will be waiting until Christmas to buy it, when I may find it cheaper, be it on the internet or somewhere else.
