Southsea/Portsmouth venues

vinyl_junkie, 12 of October of 2014 at 12:08 Posted on Planning 0 9

Just got engaged and looking for a good, reasonably priced reception venue.

We have looked at Spice Island Inn, Still and West and the Jolly Sailor so far.

We would be grateful for any other recommendations and suggestions!

Hi Claire, we're close by to you! Just over the hill and I work in Pompey. Congratulations on your engagement!

We looked at quite a few and you've got some of the more reasonable ones there. Are you looking at just a reception venue or ceremony too?

    Hi Bumble19,

Thank you and thanks also for your reply!

Yes we are mainly looking for reception venues. Have you been to any of those I mentioned above, or any others recently that you could recommend/advise on?

We've held loads of work parties and birthdays in the Still and West and it's always good service. Also have been to Spice Island quite a few times and that's good too.

The square tower is nice and very atmospheric, and there are also quite a few bars/restaurants in southsea which are nice. I would highly recommend Rosie's. It's awesome.

Good luck with your planning! And keep us posted how you get on, and if you set your date! X

Have you looked at Rosies vineyard? That's a beautiful venue for a reception. If not I would say Kitsch n Dor, the food is incredible and I live the decor though could not be to everyone's taste.

are you looking for an all in one venue or are you getting married in a church and then having a seperate reception? What sort if numbers are you thinking.

My new fave venue in the area is Southdiwns manor. It's near Liss but us stunning. Closer to home Newtown house on Hayling is good.

    Thanks all for the replies!

Due to finances we are more likely to be booking a function room, rather than a hotel, for more privacy and not having to share venue's bar area etc.

We are currently hoping to view the following venues:

    1. Still and West
    2. Spice Island Inn
    3. Jolly Sailor
    4. Rosie's Vineyard

Has anyone been to any of these venues for a wedding reception recently?

My sisters reception was at the still and west but that was 25 years ago!

If you look for a wedding report but sceptical78 she had her reception at Rosie's last year- it looked beautiful. We would have gone for it if it was an all in one venue.

    Thankyou *Mini*!

Don't suppose you could post a link to sceptical78's wedding report post? I can't seem to find it, or their profile.
