The comment on this story really annoyed me - "urban myth about people's drinks being spiked with 'date rape' drugs?!?"

I have twice now, once when I wasn't drinking at all I was designated driver and was drinking coke. My mates got worried about me after watching me only drink only coke then suddenly appearing really really drunk, they called a cab and got me home quickly. I remember nothing of the entire night 2 years later its stll completely blank

Another time I had had 1 glass of wine and again the entire night is gone - Was with OH and he said I appeared a bit drunk and slurry and I wasnt acting like myself but again woke the next morning with the worst hangover of my life and not knowing how I'd got there or what had happened.

Have you ever had your drink spiked?

I have had mine spiked when I was younger. Terrible terrible experience, which I wouldn't wish on anybody, but thankfully I didn't come to any harm.

Sadly most of my friends know somone who this has happened to.

I find it scary the amount of people who it happens to.

I had my drink spiked at Uni- like you cookiecat I wasn't drinking alcohol just lemonade so it wasn't that I'd had a few too many. I still can't remember any of the night- even getting ready to go out. Luckily my friends also clocked and took me back to the flat.

I suspect probably yes, once. I was drinking anyway so hard to say, but I don't usually get so drunk I can't walk - which is what happened on one night, but after very few drinks. My housemates looked after me (sort of) but I can't explain how I got so paralytic after far less than I used to have in those days.

Comments like that really annoy me, having worked in 'club land' for most of my adult life. You really cannot be too careful about leaving your drink or not keeping and eye on it - and even then you're not guaranteed to be safe. There's a reason why things like Spikies have been invented and are widely recommended by police etc and it's from years of incidents where people (usually women) have had their drinks spiked and not only with date rape drugs. In the end of the day, what harm does being aware and careful of your drink do? Surely it's better to be safe than sorry? (I'll get off my soap-box now!?)

And yes, despite the fact that this is an environment that I am more than well aware of the dangers in, I have also had my drink spiked. I was about 21/23 at the time and after closing our club, had gone over to our sister venue in the next town for a late drink with a couple of friends. We got there about 30 mins before closing and I ordered myself a whisky and coke. At last orders, despite not having finished my original drink, I ordered myself one more. I was talking to some of the managers from the club and knew that I would be there for a little while after closing, so just kept it on one side. While they were closing the various bars, I got talking to one of the regular doormen who I'd known for a couple of years and really didn't think twice when one of my friends came over to tell me that they were leaving and moved away from my drink for a couple of mins while I said my goodbyes.

Really, from this point in, all I remember is starting on my new drink, the doorman chatting me up and trying to persuade me to ditch my other mate and go to a grotty hotel with him and then feeling REALLY drunk and barely being able to stand up. I remember the head doorman (a friend) trying to get me away from the other doorman and then getting my mate to help him to get me into his car so they could take me home, but I kept getting out the other side of the car. I also think I have a very vague recollection (mainly because I had to deal with the consequences the following day) of sticking my head out of the car window on the way home and throwing up *everywhere*. Other than that, the rest of the night is a complete blank. It's terrifying how close I came to being in real trouble, and I honestly believe that the only reason I didn't is because I knew pretty much everyone working in the club and they knew me. If I'd been out in another town or place, it could have been such a different story.

The doorman was fired from the club a little while after and although no-one could ever prove anything, it was because of several complaints from women about inappropriate behaviour and other incidents of drink spiking.

I saw a bloke who had been dancing with my friend spike her drink, and I took it off her and had him arrested.

    Yep

I had gone straight from work to meet my friends in a bar so was sober on turning up. I had one drink and then an American sailor (one of the huge US Aircraft carriers was in) offered to buy me a drink. Studiedly I said yes. Drank the drink and thought no more of it,

The next thing I knew I had woken up in my ex boyfriends house a day later. My knuckles were bruised and bleeding as if I had punched someone and I had scratches on my arms. My Ex's house mate works in am music venue and by a huge stoke of luck has been having fag break outside and saw me lurching down the road. He assumed I was really drunk but couldn't get any sense out of me, I didn't know who he was- or where I had been or what happened to my hands. He called my ex (we were on good terms and still friends at that point) to come and collect me. He took me to his house and put me to bed as I lived on my own and he was worried about me being sick in my sleep etc.

To this day I have only one very hazy memory which is of the sailor who bought me a drink holding me by the arm and walking me down the steps of the club. It was still light at this point so was not very late but thats it. I am sure that nothing "bad" happened to me- the timesclaes dont seem to allow it.

I slept pretty much for 2 days after that as well. Was awful

Yes I have. I was 19. I had my drink spiked in a bar while waitign for a mini bus to take us to a club for my friends birthday but i never made it into the club. I collapsed in the bus, fell out of it and spent most of the night sitting on the floor of the car park shouting at cars. I was completely out of it. My ex boys (who wasnt even my boyf by that point) stayed with me and called my mum to ask her to pick me up. I then stayed in bed for 2 days as well.

    It was terrifying.

Yes I have. A similar experience to the first you described.

On a night out with friends while at university, I was only on soft drinks, because I'd been poorly earlier that week. Although I was better, I didn't want to drink alcohol so soon, so stuck to lime and soda water. My friend also noticed I was appearing drunk, despite only having been drinking the lime and soda, so she called Jack and he came and walked me back to our house. This is what I've been told, because like you, I remember nothing of the night.
