in my local paper. I must be a terrible name snob as I am wincing at some of these Tia'H-La'Shae, Italee, Dior, Mckayla, Cordi-Leigh, Porsha, Sharntay, Mazee, Dylanjay, Charlierai, Ne'Vaeh, Kaydee-Leah, Shanelle, Meadow (boy), Elleigh-Jai, Aarrysun, Neo, Bryleigh (girl), CJ, K-J,Jaylum, Paigan-Tai,...

I am aware that it makes me sound judgemental and that every parent has the right to name their child as they see fit. But honestly. And as for the number of Mr T style gold chains and ear rings (boys too)...

(does anyone know how you'd say "Tia'H-La'Shae?)

I once came across 2 children who were named Maxwell and Wendy. Perfectly normal names until you found out that their surname was House.

I also had a friend called Ruby and she had loads of sisters called after birth stones, there was a Emerald, Coral, Pearl etc.

My mum's name is Leila. Pronounced Ly-la (I once got into a stand-up row with a colleague who insisted that her name is pronounced Layla. I said he may think that, but given my mum is 70 years old and has been called Ly-la all her life, he couldn't really argue...)

Mum hates her name, so called us all 'normal' names - Faith (gets called Fay), Ann (Anne/Annie spellings) and Claire (Claire/Clare/Clair). She tried, bless her!

A colleague of mine has two sons - one with the middle name Zaq, and the other is called Jaxson.

When my stepmum was asked what her new baby sister should be called, she suggested Buttercup. Needless to say, Auntie Sandra was relieved they didn't listen to her ?

My Grandma's old friends are also a family all named after semi- and precious stones. 2 women - Ruby & Pearl, and & 2 men - Garnet & Jasper.

I absolutly love the name Lolita. But no, I wouldn't use it. I always thinks its funny that Kevin is a perfectly acceptable name in Ireland but has such a diferent reputation in the UK?

I love lots of Indian names, but I don't think I can pull off a Saloni with parents not remotely Indian.

My daughter's middle name is Calypso. I fell in love with the name after reading the Camomile Lawn too. Just wasn't brave (or whatever) enough to use it for her first name.

Actually I have just remembered my sister is named after the place of her conception. Luckily for her it was in Co Kerry- I'm not madly keen on it but its better than fishguard to rosslare catamaran I guess.

I used to work with someone called Dee... not too bad I hear you say, well her last name was Vine!

Also friends of ours have just had a baby girl. Their surname is Day, they've called the girl Summer.

    I kid you not.

Her name is bloody brilliant, I was more thinking of her locality and her necessary hair do, an unfortunate combination ?. I maintain she can pull it off and I will have YEARS of moaning about side partings, sorry C your hair just won't go any other way ?.

Charlotte's middle name is Hermione, it's taken the grandparents a few goes to pronounce it correctly. It's one of my favourite names, but I didn't want other people to call her " 'Ermyni".

Why on earth would anyone name their child Number 16 Bus Shelter, Violence or Yeah Detroit?! ?

I really like some unusual names but I just wouldn't inflict them upon my children - Connavar (from a David Gemell book,) Leonidas (from 300,) and Judas are some of them.

My neighbours named their children Dre (presumably from Dr. Dre? I can only assume they didn't realise that Dre in that sense is short for Andre) and Heaven (I have no clue why this was thought to be a good idea)

Funniest name I've ever heard was Pinnochio on a flight back from Israel. Not sure if his nose grew when he told a lie though.

    Another one was Podge.

    WHY?

In my job i hear some truly bonkers names, twins bacardi and mercedes (guess where mum was and what she was drunk on when conceived!) and my absolute fave to a pregnant client "do you knw what youre having?" "yep a boy" "ooh lovely what are you going to call it?" "Zebbeddee!" i smiled politely whilst biting my cheeks no to laugh.

How is this thread still hanging around?!

FWIW, Zebedee isn't the worst name ever but my first thought is 'bouncy guy from the Magic Roundabout' rather than biblical.
