Stepmum Matron of Honour?

Hi all, just after some advice.
We got engaged on NYE so it's early days but for years now I've thought if I got married I'd ask my Stepmum to be Matron of Honour.Is this strange? Obviously I have my Mum who will be MOTB but wanted to include my Stepmum too. She's been in my life for 27 years now and basically brought up me and my sisters.I was Maid of Honour at my best friends wedding as she has no sisters, so I wanted to make her mine out of respect as I know it's traditional to have a sister or best friend in that role.However, I feel I'll need to make her a bridesmaid as I have 2 sisters so can't choose either and I do want to involve my Stepmum.Has anyone done this? And if so did you ask outright or make up a little invitation gift?

It's your big day, so do what you feel is right. We are changing so much 'traditional' things for our day x
