Streaming wedding on the internet live to guests who can't make it

MaddieR, 27 June, 2010 at 12:28 Posted on Planning 0 7

My father has recently thought of a fantastic idea to stream weddings on the internet live to guests who can't be there. It wouldn't be avaliable for any one to watch as the link would be password protected so it would just be your nearest and dearest. I know this is currently being offered alot in the States and at some registry offices in the UK, but it would be lovely to be able to give people the option who are marrying in churches or different venues. I know i'm going to definatly try to arrange it for my sisters wedding in a few months as we currently have a few members of the family hospitalised.

I just thought I'd share the idea with you all and see if you had any feedback!

Back to my hen night planning and bridesmaid duties now I suppose Smiley smile

A Vidoegrapher colleague of mine had done this a few nonths ago. The Bride's grandmother was ill in hospital and the wedding ceremony (one hour) was streamed to her at her bedside. I am looking to providing this service once I get some idea of demand.

My brother got married in Vagas 10 years ago and he did this as he only told us he was getting married a week before they did! A group of us got together in one place and hooked it up to the TV (god knows how they did it in those days!!!!) and we all sat there in silly hats and drinking champers. It was amazing and very tearful but it was great to see him get married in real time. I would defo recommend it if someone near and dear is getting married but can not attend for one reason or another

What about using skype? if the venue has wifi and you take a laptop you could set it up so the skype call is connected just before the ceremony starts? this is what we are thinking of doing for my family in canada who cant make it over ?

We did this at my wedding last month for my cousin who couldn't make ir over from Canada. We used Skype accounts, a laptop and webcam and the venue's wifi connection. It worked fantastically well!

So long as the venue has wifi, streaming footage via a web-cam on-line will be a success. Trying through a 3G connection on a mobile is not so great - we've tried and it just crashes. We have our own protected webpage created for streaming purposes which no-one can see when first enter our site as we have to provide the page address and passcode.

I think its a great idea for family that are unable to attend for whatever reason to see the ceremony. The downside for us is something else for us to carry around and set up lol.

Technically it is very easy to set up....the bigger issue though may well be the registrars not being so willing to accomodate the requirement. Some are very last millenium when it comes to this sort of thing......

We had our ceremony streamed from Venice and it was great for friends to be able to watch it live. I think we paid £100 but they have all the equipment permanently set up in the marriage room ready to go. It's a good idea but I wouldn't pay much more.
