String Quartet nightmare

ady, 8 March, 2010 at 12:05 Posted on Planning 0 17

Hello,

I'm new to this forum, but wondered if I could please pick your brains...I would really like a String Quartet to play at my drinks reception and possibly in the Church, but they all seem ridiculously expensive!

Can anyone recommended a group in the Cheshire/Greater Manchester area which will not result in me having to hire out my finance as a male escort to pay for the priviledge of having one?!

Thank you,

Rach

Well i had kind of fallen in love with the idea of the string quartet also, but it was working out way too expensive. then i thought about a harpist and because i suppose it is only 1 person, it is cheaper. I just this morning emailed her to confirm the booking!!

I had considered contacting a local music college to see if they had a performing group but my OH actually preferred the harpist idea!

have a wee look on google for ones in your area.

    We're having a SQ! ? It's my one indulgence!!

It's costing £390 for 2 hours (they're playing before and during the ceremony and then for our drinks reception).

I found it was the same price, if not more for a harpist (quotes went up to well over £450).

I booked the Allestri String Quartet for my edinburgh based wedding (but they operate from London too) for £395 for 2.5 hours - so during the ceremony and drinks reception

As its a Civil Ceremony i think music is really important and an expense we were both happy to pay xx

Not sure if it helps but i'm getting married in Bristol and we're having the Bath Spa String Quartet.

We're paying £395, the other quote i got was £390 but they didn't have my signing the registrer music in their repotoire so would've charged £30 to learn and arrange it. Bath Spa had it listed already so went with them.

How about a string trio? We booked one because it was around 150 pounds cheaper! And they can achieve the same kind of sound as a quartet. Local entertainment companies should be able to help - or maybe your venue? Good luck - I am so excited about ours!

Yes - we got offered the trio but a trio can't do the song I wanted for the register so we had to go for the quartet. The trio were priced at £325.

We booked the Nero String Quartet after we heard them playing at a friend's wedding and they are absolutely fantastic. They play lots of modern stuff too!

    Hi,

I'm currently helping to plan my cousins wedding and looking for a band if anyone has any ideas!?

In reply to your message - I'm in a Quartet that is considerably better value than some that are listed here. All members have degrees in performannce from reputable music colleges. If your interested please get in touch. **************@*******.**.**

Any help with the band would be gratefully received!

    Were having Arcosanti Music www.arcosantimusic.co.uk

We heard them at a weddinf fayre last week so we know they sound amazing! Their Duo is very reasonably priced if you can;t afford the Quartet and they sounded really great...made me cry. Can't wait to hear the music when I walk down the isle.

It may seem expensive, but when you consider it's 4 skilled professionals pay for a day (and it is a full day when you consider travel time, setup, making sure they are early etc) it probably doesn't seem so bad if you price it individually especially when you consider it would probably cost you £180 just to rent 4 instruments!
