Hi!!

Ok so we started the hunt for a venue for our 2018 wedding - I don't know about anyone else but I am struggling to find venues I like enough online to go and look at!

We went and saw Gaynes Park this week it looked great but the visit was a disaster and for the 8.5k venue price we were less then impressed.... we are from Berkshire and although not ideal will travel for the perfect venue with accommodation on site and must be exclusive!

Suggestions anyone?? Booked to see Wasing Park in the next week

I love this barn in Surrey - might be worth checking out? I've worked here with our Campervan photobooth a few times and the view and grounds are lovely - as is the barn. http://www.gildingsbarns.co.uk/gildings_barn_information.htm

    Hi All!!!!

Update! Went to see Wasing with OH the venue I have loved for years and thought would be the one... It was nice but just didn't get that feeling I was gutted as on paper it worked with the layout/rooms/location etc etc.

I was wondering what is was missing and felt like I picked it apart when we visited - turns out OH put the spanner in the works with booking a viewing at Leez Priory as I fell in love with that place with it's charm and history but it didn't work from a practical point of view should the weather be bad plus didn't really fit the theme but I still loved it!

OH then decided times were desperate ended up searching online every county bar those in Wales and Scotland! Saved the ones she liked and we went through them together I still dismissed lots because they just didn't tick enough boxes as I want it all ha ha ha

Booked a visit in to see another venue last weekend after not loving the website but watched the video and I thought it looked good..turns out it's the one we are going to book it this week and it is not a barn!! What a relief!

Thank you all so much for your help loved looking at the suggestions especially as not all venues are listed on here!

    xxxx

Im having hell too, I planned my wedding in GREAT detail from being little and now im realising I might of completely made this venue up as it doesnt seem to exist anywhere ?

now ive moved on to trying to find somewhere that will do... I have a list of nearly 100 places to go look at ? because you cant tell anything online (many have been tiny in person but look decent sized in photos)

Ive broke it down into 3 parts:

    1. needs
    2. wants
    3. extras

    for instance:

affordable price and enough room to fit guests are NEEDS

venue style and outdoor space are WANTS (although they are important enough to vito a place without)

on site accomodation is an EXTRAS or bonus thats not required

making a tick box makes it easier not to just think 'this isnt the venue I always wanted' and to think 'this might work' instead

    Hey

May have joined this conversation a bit late but are you really set on a barn/exclusivity?

Obviously I'm biased but we are getting married at Wotton House in 4 weeks time, its a hotel but the venue and grounds are amazing and they've just gone through a refurb, I've added some pics below for you to have a look at but all I'd say is keep an open mind, you never know what you will fall in love with. My nan cried when she walked into our ceremony room.

The deposit was also £1000 with 50% due 3 months before and the remaining balance 3 weeks before xx

I don't know about anyone else but I would probably consider the venue THE most important aspect of a wedding, so it seems right to me that making the decision is going to be quite difficult and it's something you should spend a lot of time researching.

We both loved the venue that we've got booked from the start, I was worried it was too expensive (which it is really) but after a lot more research realised that nowhere else came close or offered what we needed so it came full circle and we went for it. Having been back a few times since for appointments, menu tasting etc I'm sure it's the right decision even though it's much more than I originally intended to spend!

As someone else commented, work out what you need first - that will exclude a huge amount so you don't waste time wading through them all. We needed somewhere that did very small numbers (some places consider 'intimate' weddings to be 50+ and that's not my definition) and that was dog-friendly, which immediately ruled out about 95% of venues. Once you have a shortlist look for reviews and visit to get a feel for the place, the level of service, the quality of the food etc and work out what feels right. Consider also as some have said whether you are obliged to use their suppliers or you can use your own and what cost implications that all has.

    Hi All,

Yes we had a list of what we wanted and needed it was still had as not wanting to compromise on anything! We probably did the no no ha ha and looked at loads without looking at a budget but clearly not going overboard looked at one place liked the look of it 18k venue hire!!! Clearly that was ruled out!

We are booking this week as I am waiting on dates to come back Brymton House!!!! I didn't get a OMG this is the one feeling as such which I struggled with looking at other venues because I thought you would which almost added pressure however I absolutely loved it and did get emotional about the ceremony room!

Now to set a date governed by what they have but hopefully early July or Sept on a Saturday in 2018!!!!

It is such a relief and is hard as yes I would agree that the venue is the most important factor other then the deed itself as it is key to whether a wedding is day you'll forever remember or want to forget!

I know this is an old post but just wanted to say wow your venue looks amazing Ker2018! Wasing Park was one of our top 2 - it was a hard choice to make but I did get swayed towards another (Hedsor House, Bucks). Hope you're enjoying the next stage of planning - mine is just starting!! x
