sugared almonds or minstrels?!?!

Saracroft251, 17 December, 2009 at 11:42 Posted on Planning 0 31

Hello,

We were planning to have a free bar at our evening reception, but due to a few hitches with my job and my parents business we have decided to have favours and if there is money nearer the time we can put that towards a free bar.

Our theme is Vintage, so for favours (women only) I have sourced 30 Vintage tea cups from local charity shops, like these ones:

I am in the process of fixing them up - but as a guest what would you rather have them filled with - sugared almonds or minstrels?

Thank you

SC

Hmm, saw the title and instantly though minstrels, but then read the post and thought sugared almonds would look better and go with the theme. Id be happy either way though as I love both!

I know that sugared almonds would fit the theme but I have to say I don't personally know many people who like them. Minstrels would win it for me, or and other sugar-coated chocolate for that matter! mmmmmm chhhooooooocccccoooollllllaaaaaaatttttte!

Sugared almonds would definitly fit the vintage theme but you may find people have mild nut allergies so tis a little risky. You could get some dragees (like big smarties) that look like the sugar coated almonds, that way you still have the look but without the risk of someone having an allergic reaction ?

What if I filled the cups with minstrels, then covered the top layer in almonds!! So it will look pretty on top but taste even yummier underneath XX

I adore minstrels n can't stand almonds so i'd say minstrels but agree with others that almonds would look better. when are you getting married, we are just after easter so we're having mini eggs. they would have the colours of the almonds but without the problems

Minstrels! Sugared almonds may look nice, but not many people like them. I do like them but wouldn't eat a teacup full!

    Nope ?

I asked a load of the guys coming to the wedding if they wanted a favour and they all said no, that they would only give it to thier wives/girlfriends so I though why waste money on them

I love those cups, they'll look great! I also agree with chocolate - not sure I've ever had a sugared almond but I can't imagine them being as tasty as chocolate Smiley smile

I'd be tempted to buy the chocolates coated in the sugar almond coating...so you get the best of both worlds...Choccy & pastel shades that fit with the theme ?

I know I'm later here but just thought I'd reply anyway. I love all things chocolate so my vote totally goes the minstrels way!!!! The suggestion of the pastel coloured dragees is perfect though - best of both worlds.

    Also, love the cups!!!

Id have Bon Bons....as you get them in pastel colours...but thats just me.

Minstrels - hmm not everyone likes choc. Tis all very well saying you like minstrels but thats no reason to have them lolol...... are you giving yourself a favour?

almonds would look better....... I wouldnt fill the cup either, id put in pretty tissue first and add a few almonds on top - saves on filling with almonds.,

Lovely idea btw Smiley smile Want to buy some cake plates?? ;-) x

Have what you want for your day but if you want something to look pretty then ..... What about truffles? I'm sure you can get them pink/white sugar coated (Lakeland?) and they'd look lovely in the cups but are more like minstrels.

Only thing about chocolate is it might melts, we had heart shaped chocs in the hottest August for a while and it was messy ?

You could also go down the retro sweet route that would still look good in the right shades e.g.

    DOLLY MIXTURES ?

    I'm loving the cups!!

And also liking the dolly mixtures idea. I have a nut allergy and if I was there around sugared almonds then i would be a bit panicky all night. Have you any guests who have nut allergies?

    xx
