Suggestions for what a small bridesmaid could carry?

AyCeeUK, 22 June, 2008 at 17:55 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi,

I've got a bridesmaid who is nearly 8 and I'm a bit stumped on what she could carry during the ceremony/photos etc. I could get a smaller version of the flowers that me and my adult bridesmaid are having but I thought she might like something a bit different (and a bit more hard wearing!). She was a flower girl a year or so ago and was given a teddy to carry but at nearly 8 she feels too grown up for this sort of thing now, can anyone suggest anywhere that sells anything like a feathery bouquet or something like that?

Thanks,

Ali :o)

My10 yr old BM is carrying a corn dolly horseshoe. Adult BM and I are carrying corn dolly bouquets so it all matched.

Bouquets are a simpler version of this: http://www.strawcraftsmen.co.uk/Images/JTBridalBouquet2.jpg

and the horse shoe is this one: http://i9.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/f4/fc/d3ce_1.JPG

My grans cousin makes them, let me know if you want the details!

We're trying to decide between wands or a little basket of flowers for my little ones but they are much younger than 8. Have you tried e bay for feather bouquets? I'm sure I've seen some on their in my search.

If you think she'd rather go 'hands free' then a wrist corsage might be nice.

I got a lovely little bag in John Lewis - its got satin roses all over it - thought she could keep some sweetie or camera inside. It was beside all the kids bridal wear, think you can get it online too - it cost about £8 I think

I do flowergirl wands that are on my website which are really pretty and can be used afterwards and are designed to match your colour scheme.

My wedding is not till feb next year but I am getting my daughters (8 yr old tiwns) a choice of:

Ivory and burgundy (my colours) fake flower posies, so if they put them down or drop them or anything like that i am not panicking its gonna fall apart.

A teddy on long burgundy ribbon (easy to hold).

or A dolly bag in Burgundy, a dolly bag because it won't catch. (their dresses are ivory).

Worse comes to the worse they can hold something to tye them in. Knowing little girls, they'll probably go for the bag.

The only reason I am giving them a choice is because they are my daughters and i want them to feel involoved.

Believe it or not I can remember being a bridesmaid aged 5 and having my own mini posy that I was chuffed with ! Felt like one of the grown-ups. things like that are important when your 5, 7, 8, 22.....

Hi, not been on here before but thought that I would say take a look and it's addictive!

One of my bridesmaids is almost eight. She has a different dress to the adults but not so different to mine and in ivory so I wanted her to have flowers too. Originally I wanted her to have a pomander but these are apparently really heavy and not safe if she decided to swing them around (or bash her brothers with them) so I have decided on a smaller version of the adults bouquets. Personally, I think they are too old for wands etcs at that age but it really does depend on their height and personality, my little BM is very tall, girly but old for her age but if yours is shorter and still very innocent a basket of flowers or wand might still suit her.

    Hope this helps

We got a silk pom, which also meant she could take it back to Spain with her (where she lives) and keep it, or play with it, whatever she fancied. And that was of course much lighter than a real flower one - but if you're having real flowers then you probably wouldn't want to have a silk arrangement too!

I think its hanging up in her bedroom now !
