Supplier taking ages to respond

Emma, 25 February, 2022 at 10:12 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi everyone

Back in October 2021 I booked my hair and make up supplier for me and my bridesmaids. At first she was great at replying, 2 days max. Since I paid the deposit, it's got longer and longer.

I messaged her on 6th Feb asking to book my trial for Aug/Sep time, she didn't reply so I messaged again on 15th Feb, she replied straight away and so did I asking for what dates she has, and nothing since and it's the 25th.

Am I being unreasonable? It doesn't really matter that I haven't got a reply yet but it's just making me anxious she's going to be like this right up until the wedding day!!

Its worth checking your junk box for her reply ESPECIALLY if you have gmail/hotmail ----- those things can be super sensitive.

How has she been when she has replied? Just wondering if she's perhaps having a flurry of weddings on at the moment so is a bit inundated with immediate brides. I'd just keep politely nudging, perhaps ask her if this is the best platform to talk to her on?

I've found this seems to be a habit with a lot of suppliers - great until you pay the deposit, then they shuffle you off to the "not yet" pile :/
I agree with Chloe above, definitely just politely nudge. I think we're conditioned to think that we're bugging people when we do this, but messages are pretty instant so it's possible she intended to reply and forget, or received a ton more messages and yours just got pushed along to the bottom.
Without that reminder, people tend to forget - it's a bit like RSVPs, they either respond instantly or you end up chasing them at the deadline!

The thing is when people are booking up to 2 years in advance there really is nothing else to do for a while. But saying that a supplier should be replying to a question.

I tell my couples I am here for anything they need wedding related at any time but I do do this full time - so maybe that is the factor here when suppliers do not respond quick enough - they may have another full time job.

Some couples are like "Bill our wedding is getting close ( and its 6 months away ) for me that is many weddings away but as a supplier I do appreciate that for them its almost tomorrow.

Sometimes it feels like they are getting in-touch just to check if im still alive Smiley xd

Other-times its me panicking and getting in touch with the couple because they are so laid back about everything.

The bottom line is that a supplier should be responding to a question.

But please everyone check your junk box.

Thanks everyone, she has replied now, but it is a little annoying waiting for so long for replies, like I said, my wedding is still 7 months away so nothing is urgent at the moment, it's more just giving me anxiety about later down the line!

I booked suppliers like the photographer, DJ and cars in Jan/Feb 2021 which was a long way in advance for a July 2022 wedding. Paid deposits and of course nothing happened for a while. I recently went onto all their websites to check they were all still alive and trading 🤣

She's probably super busy with weddings she is doing right now. I wouldn't worry too much about her taking a few days to reply to a question about a hair trial in 7 months time. I agree it would have been ideal if she could have responded more promptly, but I know all my friends in the wedding business are snowed under right now, and their priority is organising stuff for weddings happening in the next 3-4 months.
