Surprise for H2B on wedding day.

summer_sparkles, 5 November, 2008 at 17:57 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hiya.

I need some inspiration for a surprise for H2B on our wedding day. I know Hitchers have asked football clubs etc to sign cards but he's not a footie or sports fan at all.

The most important things in his life (aside from me I hope!) are the band Queen and old Mini Cars, and Aston Martins. I've contacted Queen's management on the official site to see if the remaining members can sign a card, and I thought about contacting the CEOs of Mini and Aston Martin, but I wonder if that will mean as much? I can't get him an Aston Martin driving experience because he's over the weight limit they accept and he owns three old minis and considers the new minis to be sacrilige!

Aside from that I am totally out of ideas and have no imagination left after a day of doing statistics! Do you have any ideas of what I can do?

What surprises are you planning for your H2B?

x

Don't get the CEO of mini to do a card as the new ones are owned by BMW, and as an original mini fan myself, that would indeed be sacrilige!

I know Paddy Hopkirk drove Minis in the Monte Carlo Rally, but I'm not sure if he's dead or not. Friend of mine used to know John Cooper, but sadly he's no longer with us either. Alec Issigonis designed it. I wonder if you can get copies of his original sketches or something like that. (Er he's dead too I'm afraid......)

Aston Martin - that was David Brown.... oh I've just googled him. Dead. This is getting silly.

How about a signed picture of Daniel Craig in his Aston. Or would that be just a nice surprise for me?!

Sorry, I don't think I've been any help at all!

Oh my god. According to wikipedia, Paddy Hopkirk's alive! Maybe you could get him to sign a card with a mini on it?

At least that's one that's not dead!

Good, glad one is alive, was beginning to think there was some kind of conspiracy going on!

No that is really helpful and now I have new "leads"... thanks AliLindsey!

Ali I have to thank you so much! After you mentioned Paddy Hopkirk I got in contact and someone is going to ask him to sign a wedding card for us! I'd never even heard of him before you mentioned him so it's all down to your brilliant advice. Thank you soooo much! ?

I asked my H's old piano teacher (when he was a lot younger) to play at our reception. When my H walked in he heard the piano first and then did a double take at who was playing. His face lit up when he saw who it was.

How did you get in touch with these people?

My H2B loves motorbikes so a card signed by a bike racer would be ideal!!

Not sad at all. There is a shop by me that sell signed disks etc. They usually have a gold disk with a picture of the person and the signature in a lovely frame. Is that a possibility? When i went in there was a boxing glove signed by Muhammed Ali in a lovely glass case. I thought my H was going to wet his pants.

What about something like this for hime to wear; http://www.1stchoicecufflinks.com/ecommerce/scripts/prodlist~idcategory~8.htm

Then you could get this for him to tie in with the cufflinks; http://www.artfull1.com/mini_cooper_art.htm

    Obviously depending on your budget etc;

    - /gifts/build-your-own-mini-cooper.htm?

You could end up with a bit of a Mini Cooper Gift bag????

How about trying to contact Sir Michael Caine (Italian Job), to see if he's sign a picture of a mini cooper (original) for you ?

    His website is here... http://www.michaelcaine.com/Projects.php

Although it has no contact page, it does have a fans section that would help you... ;-)

    Hi

Just as an aside we went to see Queen last night in Manchester (well Brian May, Roger Taylor and Paul Rogers singing) Very good.

I got my hubby a message that his best man read out from one of his favourite bands He also used to drive and show Ford Capris, so it was arranged that he would think a regular wedding car was coming to pick him and best man up but instead was a prize winning Capri. It was a true surprise and he had lots of photos taken with the car in! I contacted a relatively local Capri club and the chap who drove was more than happy to do it at a reasonable price.

    good luck!
