Surrey and Hampshire Wedding venues

Claire's Wedding, 22 of October of 2015 at 16:28 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi, looking to get married in September 2017. My partner and I do not have a huge budget and so would really like a cute venue possibly a Barn or Orangery around Surrey or Hampshire. Can anyone recommend any? I have seen a few but there is nothing better then getting peoples real reviews. Many Thanks Smiley smile

Not sure where abouts in Hampshire you are after but Clock Barn in Whitchurch and Rivervale Barn in Yately are both lovely. Not sure what your budget is but if you are prepared to have a weekday wedding you can get a reasonable price.

I love this barn in Surrey which is so cute - especially when lit up in the evening: http://www.gildingsbarns.co.uk/

    Intimate and with nice grounds.

I'm getting married at Rivervale Barn in Yateley aud it's a really lovely venue! Went to the tasting evening a few weeks ago and it felt really magical Smiley smile

The food is quite expensive but a lot of the venues around the area use 'Galloping Gourmet' too, so all the prices are the same. For example, Wasing Park and Farnham Castle both use Galloping gourmet so the food is the same price. Remember the price they quote for the catering is including everything, managing your event and setting up on the day, all linen, tableware, cake stand & knife, literally everything you can think of. So works out brilliant value.

Would recommend booking out of season and mid-week to get a cheaper price. We're doing a Sunday in July and it was quite expensive (but not as bad as a Friday or Saturday!).

    Hope this helps!

Kay you are my venue twin! And the same month! Are you 2016 or 2017? Might have to pick your brains about other suppliers!

Hi! I'm getting married on Sunday 31 July 2016 Smiley smile when are you getting married there? This is super exciting! Feel free to pick away, I've got like 90% of it planned, I'm just working on all the DIY now and getting decorations and flowers sorted. So exciting! What other venues did you consider?

I'm on the 6th. You've put me to shame really because I am only about 40% sorted! The things I am trying to sort out at the moment are: DJ, flowers and cake, have you got any recommendations about suppliers for those? Im finding DJ particularly tricky, tempted to just go for the one that the barn recommends but feel I should look around a bit to try save money.

clock barn was a very close runner up to Rivervale, we really liked them both.

Oooh, wow, you'll have to let me know how it goes! Did you go to the same tasting event as me? Smiley smile it was on 9th September. I loved the homemade jam favours so much we're going to use the same idea.

For cake, I'd recommend foxy cakes in Eton. We got an amazing price for a little 3 tier cake and it was a super friendly consultation. However, they charged crazy money for delivery on Sunday as they're not open so we are collecting the day before. Felt a bit more at ease with a cake shop but to be fair we didn't see any other cake maker.

With the DJ, we're going to hire some speakers and do an iPod playlist! Our families aren't big dancers and we found DJs to be expensive. I would have loved a live band though, but out of budget :/ Innovents look quite good but were slow to reply when I asked about a couple of casino tables then the quote was higher than elsewhere so we didn't go with them. Have heard good reviews though. We were also thinking of doing some kind of interactive jukebox so people could choose their own music but then I worried about people's choices haha!

For flowers, I'm going artificial, I bought some from eBay bit I'm not 100% happy so looking again :/ tempted to go with pollys petal flowers or Sarah's flowers but not sure yet. Might keep looking on eBay.

Have you got hair and make up booked yet? I've got a trial with the pamper room girls in a few weeks, but still not sure what I'm doing with that Smiley laugh haha. So maybe I'm only 80% sorted after all! Smiley smile

No I wasn't at that event, we got invited to one in November but we can't attend. Have you chosen your menus yet?

Yeah I know what you mean about DJs being expensive! I like your idea of a jukebox.

I haven't got hair or makeup sorted yet. I'd love to hear how you get on with the pamper room girls?! I had one trial with a company that I won at a wedding fair but I didn't really like it.I was tempted to do my own makeup after that trial but I am worried it won't look good enough in photos and also it's part of the pampering experience of the day. I have been recommended Natasha Wiggins so I might try a trial with her.

good luck with the flower hunt, why not start a thread on here, I expect you'd get some good recommendations.

    Hi!

We had a December wedding at Audleys Wood Hotel, just on outskirt of Basingstoke. Can highly recommend.

Cain Manor also looks gorgeous for a Sept wedding.

    Congratulations by the way!!

If you can't make the November one, book your meeting to run over details with the events team anyway. We booked ours for the week before the tasting and it was really handy! They literally go over every tiny detail of your day and it helps to bring everything together. They'll also send over more documents than you ever thought possible about all the aspects of your wedding.

I'll let you know how I get on! I actually won a free trial on one of the open day weekends at Rivervale Barn which is why I'm going along for a trial! So hoping it's really good. I did see Natasha Wiggins as a recommended make up artist too somewhere, so she must be good.

We've chosen our menus, we just went for the roast dinner option, nice and simple. Smiley smile

Thanks I will email them to arrange the meeting. Do you think it will matter that we couldn't make the tasting event, with regards to choosing our meal?

I'd imagine you'll get invited to the next tasting event. I chose my food before the tasting though and was just happy that they served some of our canapé choices! We didn't get to try any of the dishes we'd actually chosen. On the tasting day they served scallops for starters which I really wasn't keen on, then beef which was lovely, but I'd still prefer our roast. Then for dessert it was a trio of desserts and we've chosen the shortbread biscuits with the raspberries, which didn't feature. :/
