Sussex/Surrey brides

So, from my other post about organising a wedding 100 odd miles away I was advised to see if anyone had any reviews for our potential venues! So the list is as follows...

Christ's Hospital School

Roffey Park Institute

Ghyll Manor

Slaugham Place

Taylors Farm Retreat

Highly Manor

Cisswood House

Hartsfield Manor

Felbridge Hotel

Burford Bridge

Ramsters

Russetts

Yeah tis a long one! But as we live far away, we've basically got a list of pretty much every venue in about a 45 min drive of Horsham, and listed which ones would be big enough for us, and now trying to cut the list down!

My friend got married in Highley Manor, lovely venue! Was a lovely wedding, only thing I would mention is that the bar was in a different room to the band and this caused quite a bit of separation.

It depends what you are after of course as my friend liked the idea of that but I prefer it to be all in 1 room really.

Also what about (I think its called this!) Pagham Barn?

And Pangdean barn is great - a friend of mine got married there - lovely atmosphere!

Wiston House too? It's just down the road from me and is lush!

    Hi!

We needed somewhere for a civil ceremony as well as evening reception for approx 70 day guests, going up to 120ish for the evening. I looked at the following:

Cisswood House - They had a good deal on of £14k for exclusve use with all thhe bedrooms (51 i think) but i wasn't keen on the room where the ceremony would take place as it was quite dark and some of it looked out onto the carpark. They were setting up for a wedding at the time we viewed and the whole room was being decorated with lights and drapes - pretty but an extra expense and hassle, i wanted somewhere that didn't require much "dressing".If you are getting married in a church then this might not bother you so much as the room will just be for your reception.

Mannings Heath Golf Club - The entrance was gorgeous, perfect for photos. Only downside there was only one room upstairs for the whole function - we would have had to have the ceremony, wedding breakfast and then evening reception all in the same room and they would obviously need a while to chage the room during the day from onw layout to the next, there was also no disabled access upstairs and the room was quite small and an odd shape, it didn't work for us.

Ghyll Manor - fell in love, and booked it! i could go on and on, just what we wanted. If you want more info then let me know. We are having exclusive use, going to turn into a giant house party!

Stanhill Court - i didnt understand this at all, the guy that showed us round made it really confusing with the different packages you could have with the two sides of the hotel, i didnn't like that another wedding could be on the same day and the layout was weird, i also HATED the carpets, ugly!

Handcross Park School - beautiful grounds, i didn't like the stage in the room though which couldn't be moved and would require us to bring in chairs and tables as the ones provided were very typical school furniture which i wasn't keen on.

Ravenswood - this was our second option, absolutly gorgeous, it is out the way a bit in the country but stunning, again there is two parts of the venue but they are very seperate and this wouldn't have bothered me here.

Alexander House - stunning, i would have chosen it but was out of our budget for everything we wanted.

    We discounted:

Felbridge - i really liked it but H2B didnt like the photos (said it looked too corporate) so we didnt even get to view it

Highly Manor - i really didn't like the pics on the website, i thought it looked a bit dated

Hope this helps, i also researched loads more on the net - Amberley Castle, Birch Hotel, Buxted Park, Cranleigh Golf, East Court Mansion, Eastlands Estate, Farbridge Barn, Gatwick Worth, Goffs Park, Gravetye Manor, Hickstead Manor, Mannings Heath Hotel, Ockenden Manor, Queens Hall, Slaugham Manor, Upwaltham Barns and Wakehurst Place.

There were two venues we didn't consider at all as my two brothers got married at them - South Lodge Hotel and Cottesmore - but worth a look.

Felbridge Hotel is a great venue with good sized rooms. However, I do kind of agree on the whole corporate feel of the place

Hi ya, I live in Crawley, work in Horsham so hope I can help!

There's also the Gatwick Manor (an old barn, lovely, but is our 'local' so ruled it out!)

    South Lodge is stunning

We were looking at tippees in West Grinstead (google Beautiful World Tents) which were absolutely stunning - out of our price range.

    Slaugham Manor - beautiful

Ghyll Manor - again beautiful - we ruled it out as it was too 'generic' for us.

    Cottesmore - didn't like.

We went to Alexander House as guests - weren't that impressed with that one either.

Hmm, i'm starting to think we're a bit too fussy.

We've opted for the champagne bar at the end of Eatbourne Pier :o)

I'm staring to tihnk we might be a bit fussy too! We saw a bunch at the weekend and a few stuck out:

Stanhill: the carpets were bit dodgy, but we would have excusive use, so all rooms, and main meal in conservatory, but OH was a bit worried it would be hot (sept wedding) and there are some not s great reviews on tripadvisor...

Ramsters: Lovely rooms, but no bedrooms and we have quite a few coming from afar, so would have to sort hotel down the road. Also, they don't allow a paid bar, so we would have to sort the drinks, which for 100-120 people could end up pushing us over budget, but haven't looked into this too much, so dont have exact ideas of cost.

burrows lea: OH liked this more than me, exclusive use, with lounge & bar area and small conservatory inside, which were nice, but not as nice as the other two I didnt think. The main room is a marquee though, for the meal and evening do, which just looked a bit bland and white. I know they said we can decorate it how we like, but I dont know how much extra it would be to add coloured swags, fairy lights etc etc.

From the others we looked at, Ghyll Manor seemed really nice for exclusive use, but the room they used for the evening for the dancefloor area just seemed to small for 100-120 people, and the same with Hartsfield Manor unfortunately.

Starting to loose hope a little here, that we are ever going to find somewhere we both love Smiley sad

I was a bridesmaid at a wedding at the Burford Bridge Hotel 2 years ago and would highly recommend it.

Beautiful barn room, plenty of space and seating areas for the change around from ceremony to reception, helpful staff, lovely rooms, very nice setting at the bottom of box hill, lovely gardens. All in all, top notch!

I've been to a conference at the Felbridge and agree that its a bit corporate for a wedding - depends on what you want though.

Good luck! The venue is the hardest bit I think - it all comes together after that!
