Sweet Table

shelleyw21, 17 March, 2016 at 19:52 Posted on Planning 0 7

Can't afford to have someone do a sweet trolley for us so I'm making my own version. I haven't finished all the boxes yet but what do you think of this

That looks lovely. How big are the boxes? I am doing our own sweetie buffet too as I refuse to pay someone £200 to do it! I went to Ikea and bought different jars, bowls, glasses etc which cost me £30. I just need to buy the bags, tongs, scoops and sweets now. At least I can use the bits and bobs from IKEA afterwards as well X

The boxes take about 300g or 2 bags of sweets. The only drawback is they aren't airtight so I'm going to have to put all the sweets in plastic bags and just tip them in the boxes at the last minute. The card to make the boxes cost me £6 and each box can be cut out of a sheet of A4 and a one panel on another page i.e 5 pages gets you 4 boxes. I can get 20 boxes on the shelves and have spent about £45 on sweets. I used to own a sweet shop and I was trying to go for the look of an old fashioned sweet shop with lots of variety. I think it's disgusting the amount of companies charging £150+ for 6-10 different sweets only. Card+timber+fabric+sweets all in cost about £60

Couldn't agree more! I can't see how companies can justify the cost! I really wanted one but thought my venue wouldn't let me do my own as they seem quite strict about 'venue's own catering only' ... and they do offer a sweet shop option but it's around £200-300!!! Are they gold dusted?!

BUT... then a couple of days ago I re-read my contract and it lists possible exceptions as cake, favours and sweet cart (exceptions to their catering rule I mean) so I presume that's one of the few things I'm allowed to do! Might see if I can get them to let me have a DIY cheese tower cake as well as my wedding cake cupcakes but they might get funny with me if I ask for too many exceptions!). Anyway - absolutely love the sweet table you've made... the boxes are ace!
