Table name ideas

MrsRees2B, 13 January, 2015 at 22:32 Posted on Planning 0 26

Me and h2b have been discussing table names tonight. We're both a little geeky and have been thinking along the lines of house names from games of thrones ie lannister, stark? Or place names from LOTR rivendell etc. Or song names from war of the worlds, eve of war, forever autumn.

Do you think these types of things are too geeky or would they be ok? I've ruled out numbers as I know if I put my sister on table 5 she'll think she's been put at the bottom of the list etc.

Names = no one up manship!

Do you have other geek-chic related themes to your day so that the table names would fit in? I think GoT is the better idea- you could use place names in westeros I.e riverrun, winterfell as well

HahHaHa I saw world of the worlds at the o2month.its been in my head for ages.

We saw war of the worlds at Leeds arena last month. It was amazing. Nope no other themed bits at all.... We don't really have a theme as such just the colours of a peacock feather with a touch of vintage for good measure lol.

Oh we are having GOT theme for signing the register!

I definitely think that you ought to do that, it represents what you both like in life.

my table names are going to be random villages/places in the country that we got engaged in x

If you haven't got a theme around GOT or War of the Worlds, it might be a bit odd to have table names relating to them.

We're having the names of places that mean a lot to us - it's the one thing we could agree on!

I think I agree with this, but I go back and forth on how I feel with table names. I definitely agree with what others have said, have something that means something to the two of you, but for example say there was nothing else GoT in your wedding, for people who don't know anything about it, they wouldn't pick up the theme from elsewhere in the wedding so wouldn't know what the table names were all about. But then the other part of me says it doesn't matter, the people who do get it will like it... ignore me, I'm rambling!

Anyway, my two ideas at the moment are either places that mean something to us both, or random numbers up to our current age, so for example 1, 4, 12, 17 etc and then photos of us at that age. Can't decide yet!

I always think the table names are a good opportunity to express some of your personalities or something meaningful to you as a couple. I think if GoT is your thing, go with it! My stepbrother and his wife had the same, and yes some people didn't get the GoT reference, including me to be honest, but I asked my stepmum and she explained. I instantly thought, 'that's nice that they have done something to reflect their personalities,' not ' why have they chosen something I don't get, I feel really left out.' I've seen all sorts from species of birds to bus numbers to names of sweets (they had large jars of that type of sweet as a centrepiece at that wedding). We haven't decided what to go with yet but may just go for meaningful places e.g. the street name of our first house, our local pub, the city we got engaged in, where we first went on holiday etc.

We're having a whole GoT themed wedding, so I hope it's not too geeky ?

In all seriousness, your suggestions are great. Go with something personal to you and your OH. After all, it's a day about celebrating your relationship include as much of "you" as you can in the day and you wont go far wrong!

Exactly this. I think it's a lovely idea. We went for names rather than numbers for the same reason, we had Brighton landmarks as that's where we got married.

Great idea!! Not too geeky at all! If it represents you and your OH then definitely go for it!

We were thinking of doing something similar but just with famous couples from the stuff we like, which includes things like GOT, LOTR, The Big Bang Theory etc, but we were going to throw a couple of more traditional ones in there for the golden oldies Smiley smile lol

    Thats a great idea!

Our friends did a "Gin-crawl" for their table numbers, taking loads of pictures with gin outside different pubs!

We're thinking of taking pictures at different rock clubs we go for on the tables Smiley smile

We're either thinking Cities of Skyrim or Whiskies Smiley smile So either Falkreath, Whiterun, Dawnstar or Lagavulin, Balvennie, Glenfiddich etc!

I didn't like the idea of numbers either, I worry that the higher the number, the lower down the list they'll feel!

Calella - if you're having whiskies you should use Edradour! It's a small distillery just outside Pitlochry; the smallest in Scotland in fact. Also, there whisky is to die for!

McHelenz - I love the idea of a gin crawl! Gin is my absolute favourite Gin ever!

H2B is a Barman so he'll probably pick his faves! Our venue is a lovely country home so I think it'll be quite fitting. Trying to keep it traditional with the piper, kilts etc so whiskies might work nicely!

We were originally going to go for favourite TV shows, most of which are Sci Fi. We then considered names related to Stargate but finally settled on pet names for each other- buttmunch, sex chicken and muffinchops raised a few giggles!

Sam&Louise - as long as no ones got any 'Red Wedding' ideas!! ?

We're having a LOTR theme. Cake, invites…possibly ring (for him, if the budget will stretch). More than likely music. So I think we'll be naming our tables, The Shire, Rivendell…etc

Thanks for all your replies! Some great ideas here. I'll be having a think although GoT will maybe end up topping out lol oh also thinking of having our rings engraved with moon of my life on my and my sun and stars on his. So will be small touches of GoT rather than a theme.

We've decided to go the hint of geek route. We've opted for ship names from Science Fiction series/films - TARDIS, Liberator, Serenity, Starfury, Millennium Falcon and USS Enterprise :-)

Thinking of having an acoustic version of the Firefly theme and the GoT theme for when we are signing the register too :-)
