Table name ideas?!x

clarem1986, 9 February, 2010 at 12:55 Posted on Planning 0 43

Hi all,

I hope your all well and enjoying planning your day! I am!

I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas for table names? Rather than table 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. Sorry if there has already been a recent post on this but I couldn't find one!

So far my partner has come up with football grounds, but I'd like to avoid anything football related if possible!!

Inspiration would be great! Thanks xx

We named ours after Shropshire hills as this is where we are from and we enjoy walking.

What is your theme for the wedding? Do you have something you both enjoy doing?

That's lovely FunkyDiva -we're going for London Bridges 'cos we're getting married overlooking the Thames, and it means a lot to us both. Other ideas I've seen are holidays you've had (with a picture from the holiday as the table marker) or words for love in the language of each country you've had. A friend did characters from her favourite play - midsummer night's dream.

Just found this on a website.

Colours - colours connected with your theme - so if your colour is blue, tables could be sky, midnight, royal etc. Places - places you've been together. Hobbies - words connected with a particular passion one or both of you have - eg if you are golf fanatics then you could have tee, 19th hole, fairway, green etc. Songs - names of songs by artists you both like. Honeymoon - Going on an interesting/exotic honeymoon? Use names from that - for a safari you could use names of animals, for a beach holiday you could have palm tree, white sand, coral etc. Venue - take inspiration from your venue. If it's castle you could have spires, moat, princess etc. "I Love You" - "I love you" in different languages. Season - table names could fit with the season - a winter wedding's tables could be called icicle, snowflake, blizzard etc. Location - think of names relevant to your location - if you're getting married in a town or country with an interesting history then pick out some of those people/events. Where you met - make a reference to where you met. If you met at university you could have landmarks from that town or a list of colleges/halls/bars. Heritage - use your heritage/ancestors. If you have a Scottish connection then use all things Scottish - tartan, whisky, kilt, loch etc.

We've been round the houses with this one and have settled on places in Scotland that we have been.

We were going to go for flower names then foreign countries that we've visited. I also liked the idea of jem stones.

Wow, what a great and fast response from you all!

I love the pets idea but we dont have any pets....

Love the holiday idea but we've only been abroad togther 3 times...

Dont really have any hobbies (I know that sounds boring!)

    I saw on another website a 'disney' themed one;

    Seven dwarves cottage

    Enchanted kingdon

    Cincerellas castle

etc etc....I thought it could be funny to stick my partners rowdy mates on the seven dwarves table, but not sure a disney theme is particularly 'us'.

Theme for the wedding is creams, golds, light browns, lace etc (I think), quite classic suppose! xxx

    What about favourite games;

    Cluedo
    Monopoly
    Buckaroo
    Chess

You could put the board on the table as decorations, and you could find the box pictures for your stand name and each place card could have a person piece e.g. trivial pursuit circle...ready for the cheese!

    Scrabble Cake?

You could even make your H a personalised monopoly board as a gift for the day!

We've gone round and round with this idea.

Flowers, pets, and even most recently settling on naming them after our grandparents/close people who are no longer with us. But we're not back so square one, with my oh most recent imput being the red arrows.

I am loving all this planning and have totally become a hitched addict!! Smiley smile lol. I've heard of farmers calling tables after breeds of cows/sheep, or tractors, but i like the ideaof calling them after sweets!! Smiley smile dolly mixtures, bonbons, fruit pastilles!! Smiley smile

Oooh i like having 'i love you' in different languages - but is it too twee?

we were going to have different species of butterflies since i have always thought they were beautiful and we're having butterflies on place cards and table plan. but since we have 20 tables i think this might end in huge confusion - 200 people walking around reading each table name to see if it is theirs! so might have to do plain old numbers Smiley sad

We are going to have names of beaches I went to as a kid, beaches he likes to surf at and beaches we have been to together and hopefully postcards of these beaches too.

We're thinking of having retro sweets as the table names and then having a jar of each on each table. Not set in stone yet though.........

We're going to have wedding photos of our parents, grandparents etc as the table names - although I haven't quite worked out how to do the naming bit yet as there'll be two Mr and Mrs Hirst's and two Mr and Mrs Kiddle's lol!

We haven't really got stand out hobbies - so otherwise may be others that have been suggested such as our holiday destinations, favourite bands as we like festivals or football for the other half!!

    Everybody has really creative ideas!

What about musical genre's - jazz, Pop, RnB, Opera, Classical, Rock, Punk, Heavy Metal etc.

You could create centre pieces/favours with musical notes and cd's

Have pulled up this thread again as we are now stuck! Went to do the beaches one and didn't have enough where we had been together!! We will have been together 3 yrs when we get married and spent 2 of them saving for the wedding, so haven't been many places together!

We are going to New York for Honeymoon so thinking of New York Landmarks, although one of our guests did this for their wedding (we didn't go to it though). Another thought is movies filmed in New York, and going completely away from the New York theme, h2b has just suggested puppets from The Muppets, as we both love them!!

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated
