Table names - what are you thinking?

lamby, 28 April, 2010 at 08:53 Posted on Planning 0 32

Hello,

sorry - this has probably been done before, but just wondered what you were all thinking for your table names, if you're having them?

We were planning to name each table after a song connected with our friends, e.g. my friends table will be Mr Brightside, ours will be one of our songs or maybe I do, I do, I do, I do, I do by Abba, etc... We keep thinking of little variations on this like instead giving the tables names of love songs or wedding songs, like going to the chapel, etc - can't quite decide!

I know there are so many lovely things to do, like places you went on your early dates, or some friends named theirs after famous couples, like romeo and juliet and ross and rachel which I think is very cool!

Just wondered what you were all having? ?

We're using local landmarks. Taking photos of each and writing the names on these for the table plan and then a blown up photo for the actual name holder. I wil flahs once i've done them x

I was having a panic about this the other day, H2B and I wanted something rugby related as we're both big rugby fans however I wasn't sure whether it would be appropriate however all the lovely ladies on here assured me it'd be fine. If we don't do something rugby related then I was thinking of doing Autumn flowers as we're getting married in October.

The song title idea is lovely, my friends got married last year and they did that. I was on Kings of Leon - Revelry x

Our table names were based on our firsts. The names of: Our first song, house, son, movie we watched together and restaurant we visited...

I think its lovely when couples have something that either get you guessing or are unique to the couple

    xxxx

    Oooh! What's the top table??

Ours is holiday's we've been on as every who knows us knows we love our holidays (it was a toss up between buying a house or going to Barbados. Needless to say we're still renting...). Our first holiday together was to Hawaii (can you guess what the top table's called) which we booked less than 2 months of knowing eachother ?
If we didn't have anything so significant then i'd probably just give them numbers. I'm personally not keen on the romantic couples, random love themed names type things.

I love you in different languages is very cute!

We're probably going to have something christmassy - maybe different xmas song titles, or diff things you find (holly, mistletoe, Rudolf??!). Other ideas welcome though!

Our wedding is at kew gardens and they have got a butterfly exhibition on now, and i love butterflies, so we were going to have species of butterflies. some lovely names 'frosted elfin' or 'tiger swallowtail'. and have a pic of the butterfly with the name underneath for the name holder. slightly twee but everyone knows i love butterflies.

BUT we're now having numbers - got 20 tables so had nightmares of people walking around for ages reading each name trying to find their table!

other ideas are pet names, a city theme, different years with pictures of you 2 in those years.... xxx

There's a bit of a penguin theme to our wedding as James and I are mad about them (our Cake topper is a penguin bride and groom!) so we're naming our tables after the different types of penguin. ?

Me and H2B have done quite a lot of travelling so we are naming our tables after places we have been and on the "number holder" we are going to have the name of the place and a photo of us there.

For example the top table will be Australia and other tables will be Budapest, Prague, Turkey etc etc

I'm a long way off deciding this yet but I went to view a venue on Saturday (the one we've ended up booking - yay!) and on the morning we looked round it was set up for a wedding that was taking place that afternoon.

The colour theme was blue - there were blue sashes on the chair covers and blue and white table decs - and I noticed the table names were all named after something blue! I thought it was a really good idea. The tables I could see were called Blue Moon, Blue Mondays, Blue Eyes, Blue Lagoon.

Our colour is probably going to be fuscia so now I'm thinking about nicking that idea, but so far I can only think of Pink Ladies and Pink Panther.....

not 100% sure yet, but seeing as my OH is a dairy farmer he was thinking about different breeds of cows, theres also different tractors! lol. Im doing a calligraphy class and my tutors daughter is getting married this year as well and they are thinking of keeping it simple by using letters, a,b,c etc! I thought that was a nice idea as well. My other idea is sweets and we got engaged on the walls in londonderry so was thinking all the names of the gates there!

At the moment it's looking like ours will be footbally names, Sunderland legends, as my OH is a very dedicated supporter of Sunderland! I'm trying to persuade him that Sunderland players who have also played for Man Utd is a brilliant idea - I was brought up Man Utd as my dad's family are all supporters - but we'll see. We might end up with something completely different! I love the idea of table names based around your colour scheme!!

We've only got five tables so we're going with Five Nations (poor old Italy). We're on Scotland of course! Had a play with our plan over the weekend and the only issue is that I've stuck a Welsh person on the Ireland table and have no Welsh people on the Wales table but can't work out how to move them without causing mega chaos and putting people in awkward seats. So I think my Welsh friend will just have to cope!

Plus I work in advertising so my table plan is going to be a pitch with shirts on it (with people's names), with my clients' logos around the edges like traditional pitch advertising (although I've tried my best to get my clients to sponsor my wedding officially, I haven't managed to get a penny from them ?. Apparently it doesn't deliver much ROI - boo!)

We were going to use places that we have been together with photos of us there but ended up with 12 tables and hadn't visited enough places!

So we are now having places that we are visiting on honeymoon - Pollonawura, Meeru, Pinnawela... (need to check all my spellings!) with photos like a postcard.

These are all so lovely and original!

I think the football ones are brilliant - so good for the OH who so often have to put up with lots of girly wedding related stuff! Something the male guests will definitely notice and bond over!

I feel re-excited (not that that's even a word!) about our song theme now, and it's something OH will enjoy too as we both love our music/gigs.

Hmmm, feel a Saturday night drinking and inspiration sess coming on! xx

    Hi

Why don't you think of 'off the wall pinks' like - pink shrimps, pink knickers, pink peonies, pink perfume, pink drinks, pink carnations. We are doing table names all the time and there are some outrageous ones and some very simple ones, anything to make your guests smile.
