Table Runners Length?

I can't believe this is what Friday nights have come to! Sitting here wanting to get something else ticked off my list so decided to have a hunt for table runners. We're having a small wedding and the venue is providing two long (3.5m each) wide rectangular tables with white table cloths. I'm going to have a length of lace down the centre as the runner like this

Question is, how long should it be? How much further over the edges of the table should it hang down? I've found some suitable lace on eBay but the options are 4 metres or 6 metres. If I go for the 4m length, would a 25cm overhang on each end look ok?

As long as they're not longer than the table cloth they'll look fine. You could also dress the table ends along the lines of chair sashes or pew ends which would look nice.
