Terminally ill mum - wedding not booked yet

Melissa, 17 March, 2025 at 13:00 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6
My mum is terminally ill and has been in hospital for the past 5 weeks and it’s not looking like she will get out. I really don’t want to get married without her so I was wondering if there are exceptions on giving notice of marriage? So if I give notice of marriage could we get married before the 29 days after? And is it possible to have a private ceremony in the hospital if she can’t leave her bed?
I’ve tried to research it but not much is coming up

Best people to talk to is the registrar in your area, they generally will travel!

I am so sorry you are going through this.

If you want a civil ceremony, your best bet would be to contact your local registry office and ask their advice. The other option would be a church ceremony - there is a special number to call for situations like yours which is given on this page https://www.facultyoffice.org.uk/special-marriage-licences/couples/do-i-need-a-special-marriage-licence/

If neither of these options work for you, I guess the third option is to have a non-legal kind of wedding blessing ceremony, to be followed by the legal stuff later.

I hope you manage to find a solution that will enable your mother to be part of your special day x

I’m so sorry to hear about your mum’s situation—that must be incredibly tough for you, and I can completely understand why you’d want to have her at your wedding. It’s such a special moment, and I’m glad you’re looking into ways to make it happen despite the circumstances. I’ve done a bit of digging, and I think I can help with some answers about exceptions for giving notice of marriage and having a private ceremony in the hospital in the UK. hill climb racing

There are exceptions for giving notice in urgent situations, like a terminal illness. You’d need to apply for a waiver through your local registry office, and if approved, you could marry sooner than the 29 days. Hospital weddings are possible too, speak to the hospital chaplain or staff, and they might help arrange it. Wishing you strength and hoping you get to have your mum there with you. ❤️

In urgent situations, such as a terminal illness, exceptions to the standard notice period can be made. You can apply for a waiver through your local registry office, and if granted, it may allow you to marry in less than 29 days. Hospital weddings are also an option—reach out to the hospital chaplain or staff, as they may be able to help coordinate the ceremony. Sending you strength, and hoping your mum can be there with you. don't wary enjoy the music and forget time will come
