The Blues Brothers is the best film ever made - discuss

Lillythepink, 27 January, 2009 at 23:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 23

It's on ITV4 - was on the other night too.

It's got:

great music

The talented Belushi brother

soul legends

a mental storyline

nuns

cowboys

police chase scenes

guest cameos

a happy ending.

I honestly think it's one of the best films ever made. Tell me why you love/hate it?

I've never seen it. Your synopsis is not really selling it to me either ?

I've never seen the film but I did go the theatre to see it many moons ago. I went with someone who was in a wheelchair and halfway through the show, the audience stood up to dance and all we saw was the bums of those around us.

We left soon after and never bothered again.

Is it really that fab? I've never fancied watching it after that.

Discuss? No need. It is the best film ever made.

Of course I am waiting for Mr JK to come in and tell us the original 1950's Polish version was far superior in every respect and we are culturally ignorant for never having seen it ?

Never seen it and no interest in doing so. And the words 'feelgood movie' have confirmed this position

I'd never use those words to describe it - it's far too subversive to be a feelgood movie.

Fantastic film - doesn't it still hold the world record for the number of cars smashed up in a chase scene?

I haven't seen this film since I was a child! Oh the memories. My two uncles would dress up as The Blues Brothers for family parties and do the song and dance "Everybody.....needs somebody.....everydoby, needs somebody to love...."

Also reminds me of Nuns on the Run. Another film I loved as a child. "Spectacles, testicles, wallet & watch" ?

Not the best film ever but it's definitely one of the best IYSWIM. I love it but I wouldn't describe it as a "feelgood movie" because that conjures up images of vacuous chick-lit books made into films.

One of my favourite all time films - can I add Aretha Franklin as another reason to see it?

We were channel hopping last night and stopped and watched it . . . again

"We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it."

I've only recently seen it, H raved about it for ages and he and his brother do a Blues Brothers act sometimes when we have family gathering which they're pretty good at. I have to say i loved the film when i saw it

The music was fab! The story line was ok too.

We saw The Blues Brothers Party at the theatre just before christmas and it was good too

I think you'll find you need help.

In my list of fabulous things the Blues Brothers have, I missed off incompetent Neo-Nazis.

    How could I forget them!?!?

Lois, it is NOT, I repeat NOT a feelgood film.

    Agreed - it's utterly fabulous.

Don't forget Carrie Fisher as the ultimate psycho stalker ex-girlfriend. The bit where the buidling collapses on them and they just get up, dust themselves down and continue on their way without comment is probably my favourite movie moment of all time. ?

    "Rollin', rollin', rollin..... "

Their version of rawhide is much better than the original.

Fantastic film and fantastic soundtrack. One of the best films ever!

but it is a feelgood film, how do you feel after watching it? you can't help but feel good. Maybe "feelgood" is the wrong phrase but I can't think of how else to describe it?

    <sneaks in >

    Maybe a feelgood-not-soppy film.

I went to universal studios and they had pretend Blues Brothers who were also fab - maybe its just the songs that are good ...?
