The kids

Mrs Stb Travis, 1 June, 2022 at 20:07 Posted on Planning 0 5
So our 'just us wedding', is growing by the day. We're looking at potentially 25 kids between the age of 16yrs and 8mths to occupy/entertain between 1pm and 4pm. We're having a buffet during this time so hoping that might keep then busy for 10 minutes. We're on a tiny budget but if it keeps them busy and out of bother I'm happy to look into any and all suggestions.
My partners under the impression more kids will be fun 😄 As a mum of 3 I suspect they'll be a source of stress for the guests if they get bored. Send help

Forgot to add the wedding is in late October. The reception is being held at a country pub, small beer garden.

We are not having any kids except my two daughters who are 12 and 14 and my sisters three children who are 3,8 and 10. I am an older first time bride at 45 so all my friends have at least 2 kids so this made it easy for me to say no kids except those in the wedding party. I’ve been to weddings in the past with quite a few kids and they get disruptive when they are bored and tired so entertaining them is a must! The worst part was probably the ceremony as it’s very boring for anyone under the age of 18 probably. So I would personally try and avoid inviting kids at all but if you have to then some form of entertainment is definitely needed- giant games like jenga and Connect 4 or a magician or something like activity packs are all things I have seen in past weddings.

Thank you for your response. It's a second wedding for me, first for my partner. There are loads of kids in the family and we're getting married on a Monday in half term. Most of my guests are at least an hours drive away so already a big ask without then saying no kids. We've 5 between us age 1, two at 11, 12 and 14. I'm looking into entertainers as I'm not convinced the kids will either dance or sit quietly as my partner seems to think.

If there is space at the venue set up a room with activity packs like colouring books, sticker books etc for the young ones and we set up a switch for the older ones with just dance on and mario kart. Is a hard one as the cost can get out of control and I don't think you have to provide entertainment, the parents should ensure their children behave or bring iPad etc if they want to bring their kids. For the most part all the kids at ours did entertain themselves and were happy running around outside together

I think I'll probably end up doing something like this. My partner is convinced the kids will all either dance or sit quietly. I find this unlikely considering the number of kids and their ages. We had a quote of £140 for 2 hours for a mini disco, activity packs and generally entertaining the kids. Which I didn't think was too bad. It's would be nice to avoid a mass of kids sat staring at screens though.
Thank you for your suggestions x
