The make-up artist has been sacked!

MrsG2013, 24 June, 2013 at 16:15 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hey!

So, i booked my make-up artist straight away back in Feb 2012 she told me we would do the trial 4 weeks before the wedding but required a deposit upfront. Went for the trial and it was hideous! (making me realise how stupid of me for leacving the deposit without a trial first ☹️ )

So she asked what I liked my makeup like. I'm so natural and plain jane you wouldnt believe. Today I'm at work with my mascara on... and thats it! I walked out caked up in makeup, i looked like coco the clown with bright pink cheeks and an odd colour on my lips so I got in touch and told her i'd rather do my own! And even more annoying - her foundation made my skin feel poop so on top of the £40 trail cost I paid and my £30 deposit I lost I had to go buy some new toner, cleanser and a new face cream to get some moisture into my skin!

So.. I was wondering what people recommend? With all the stress from the wedding i've broke out a few spots so will need all day coverage. Ideally I'd like a lightweight foundation but with good coverage? I'm just wondering what brands people recommend? I'm looking at MAC and Benefit, but don't fancy a full day of trying out a billion different foundations, so if I could get it down to 3/4 brands (max) i can go from there.

Wherever I get the foundation from I'll get the rest of the make-up from the same place. We're all going to do each others makeup on the day. Luckily everyones got lovely skin naturally!

Thanks ?

Mac is a lovely brand you could have a make up trial with them in store, my make up artist is a girl I knew from school who works for mac but does wedding make up at weekends. I had my trial which I was very nervous about and loved it. I like you dont wear much make up to work but do put abit more effort in on nights out. The foundation was light and I even had fake eye lashes on. So I think go for a trial and see what you think.

    Hi hun,

Im so sorry to hear you have had a bad experience with a makeup artist. I am a make up artist with over 18 years experience, specialising in the bridal industry only.

If you would like some advice, please feel free to mail me. Regarding your makeup and skincare.... I would say a good lightweight foundation with reasonable coverage is by Estee Lauder. Double wear light foundation. They also to a great range in skincare too.

Good luck hun and hope you have an amazing day.x

    Big hugs

    Nicolina Hart.xx

Aw what a shame about your experience.you would have thought she would have worked with your natural look as you don't want to look likea different person on the day!

I recommend Benefit oxygen wow foundation as it lets your skin breathe but provide great coverage. If you are doing your own makeup I would recommend using a primer so it lasts aswell and Benefits Porefessional mixed with their that girl primer gives a great base.

Btw I don't work for Benefit, I'm just a makeup junkie haha xx

I use estee lauder double wear - although that's pretty heavy! They do a light version though you may want to try it! The best part is if you go to a counter in debenhams or boots they give you a week sample in a little bottle! Get your shade and you may not even need to buy a full bottle ! the problem with mac is you can try it in store but as far as i'm aware they don't do samples to take away! You want to see how it looks when you apply it yourself!

Another good one is chanel luminare I think it's called (excuse the spelling!) again they give you a sample in a little bottle!

I did makeup for someones wedding a few years ago (i'm not a makeup artist) but I love makeup! lol and I just used a concealer and a tinted moisturiser? have you tried this to see if you get enough coverage! If you don't wear foundation usually I am sure your skin is in amazing condition! x

I personally don't wear foundation so cant offer advice there, however, I would recommend you avoid any foundation or powders with SPF as it doesn't photograph well with flash (can make you may look very white / pale in photos).

Hello!!!! I tried Bobbi brown a week ago, very natural (free consultation) and I looked my absolute best when she had finished, anything I wasn't happy with she tried something different, my fiancé is really pleased says it looks beautiful. Also it lasted all day, I still looked amazing at bed time and was sad to take off the make-up at the end of the day. I have bought most of what was suggested and have practiced since and found I could apply it almost as well - and more how I like to be honest :-)

I would suggest bobbi brown to anyone wanting a natural look, however I did ask to stay away from shimmer and asked for only matt finishes, I don't want any of that glittery look :-) just fresh faced beauty. I really hope you find something you like, it's your day when you want to look your absolute best, God bless xxx ps Kate Middleton wore bobbi brown on her wedding day and was thought to have done her own makeup xx
