    I've never heard it been pronounced that way - I've heard people use 'ickle' which makes me shudder a bit (Sorry ickle adams!).

    No, it's a twee attempt at appearing cute, which fails miserably in my opinion. Baby talk in adults should be a hanging offence.

    I know several people who do this, all from the Yorkshire area - and before I'm flamed I know at least as many Yorskire folk who pronounce it correctly.

    No, it's a laziness thing IMO. Lots of people from my area / work area do this and it drives me insane, some also say bokkle <shudder>.

    Similarly annoying is saying buzz instead of bus (although this may be a slight colloquialism).

    <Yorkshire person raises hand>

    Now, I don't pronounce little as lickle, however, I don't pronounce the T's either. I would say that my version is more lit'ul (very short t, more like a d) but not as in lidl ?

    ? Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets wound up about it. Somone said it on the Jamie programme and I wanted to hit the TV!

    Its popular over in Bolton. It drove me up the wall when I worked there. You could also hear "Bockle" and "Hospickle". Grrr.

    I worked in Trafford for a bit and everyone was 'rushed to the ospickle'. Babies had bockkles. Loathe it with a passion.

    My MIL says liccle and hospikal and it drives me insane, it sounds awful. We are from Yorkshire but I don't see that as any excuse and it grates at me when shes says it to my 1 year old son who is just learning to talk.

    I'm in Birmingham and some people at work say lickly, ospickle, bockle and (worse by far) I heard someone in the cateen yesterday ask for a cheese and pittle sandwich. It's like they just swap the sounds over - aargh

    Yup, I've heard those too from my friends who live there. A more Lancashire thing than Yorkshire (me being from Yorkshire but living in Lancashire and married to a Wiganer)
